The scale of the economy ranks 4th in ASEAN
On the occasion of the 78th anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs Day (July 27,47 - July 27, 2025), 80 years of the successful August Revolution and the National Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (September 2, 1945 - September 2, 2025), on the morning of July 31, in Hanoi, General Secretary To Lam - Secretary of the Central Military Commission - chaired a meeting with delegates of Vietnamese Heroic Mothers, revolutionary veterans, pre-upgrade cadres, generals, and heroes of the People's Armed Forces.
At the meeting, General Secretary To Lam presented some results of the country's socio-economic achievements to the delegates.
Accordingly, the GDP of our country will increase from 346 billion USD in 2020, ranked 37th in the world, expected to increase to over 510 billion USD in 2025, 1.48 times higher than in 2020, ranked 32nd in the world and 4th in the ASEAN region.
GDP per capita is 1.4 times higher, increasing from 3,552 USD to about 5,000 USD. Average national income (GNI) per capita will increase from $3,400 to about $4,750 by 2025, surpassing the low-average income level. This is a proud result in the extremely difficult context in the past 5 years.

Despite many difficulties and challenges, the General Secretary said that in the first 6 months of 2025, the Government will consistently and steadfastly prioritize the goal of strongly promoting high growth associated with maintaining macroeconomic stability, controlling inflation, ensuring major balances of the economy, determined to complete at the highest level the goals and targets of the socio-economic development plan in 2025, especially the GDP growth target in 2025 of 8% or more.
GDP growth in the first quarter of 2025 reached 6.93%; In the second quarter, it reached 7.96%, and in the first 6 months, it is estimated to reach 7.52%.
The private economic sector has developed dynamically with the increasing number of enterprises, contributing about 51% of GDP, over 30% of budget revenue, employing 82% of labor. Initially, a number of large-scale, multi-industry private economic groups have been formed, capable of competing in the international market.
Mechanisms and policies on the private economy have strong innovations, especially from 2025, in the direction of developing the private economy as the most important driving force of the national economy.
Strive to eliminate all temporary and dilapidated houses by August 31, 2025
The General Secretary also said that as of July 27, 2025, the whole country has supported the elimination of temporary and dilapidated houses for poor and near-poor households (reaching 55%). The whole country has supported 268,470 houses, including over 50,000 houses for people with revolutionary contributions, and strives to eliminate all temporary and dilapidated houses nationwide by August 31, 2025.
From 2021 to present, the whole country has had 692 social housing projects implemented with a scale of 633,559 units, including: 142 completed projects with a scale of 93,793 units; 139 projects have started construction with a scale of 125,714 units; 411 projects have been approved for investment with a scale of 414,052 units.
The General Secretary also mentioned the decision to exempt tuition fees for high school students from kindergarten to high school from the new school year; the policy of building an I-II inter-level school for 248 border communes on the land; increasing health insurance support... which are major efforts of the Party and the Government in the goal of implementing the socialist state's social policies for the people and are being approved, supported and highly appreciated by the people.
The Government and the Prime Minister direct the focus of investment resources to develop synchronous and modern strategic infrastructure, prioritizing key transport infrastructure projects, airport systems, seaports, high-speed roads, high-speed railways, inter-regional and inter-provincial projects.
