On April 28, information from the People's Council of Nghe An province said that at the People's Council meetings, the approval rate reached 96.24% at the commune level and 95.53% at the district level. Currently, Nghe An has 412 commune-level administrative units (including 362 communes, 33 wards, 17 towns). According to the new plan, the whole province will have 130 units, a reduction of 282 units, equivalent to 68.45%. Specifically, there will be 11 wards and 119 communes left.
The naming of new administrative units has been widely consulted with household representatives and has received the majority of voters' approval. Some famous landmarks with special meanings such as Kim Lien and Cua Lo are kept unchanged.

Many localities such as Vinh City, Yen Thanh, Hung Nguyen chose the option of naming communes after districts with serial numbers. Some other places prioritize the restoration of old names with historical and cultural values.
On the afternoon of April 28, at the 28th Session (special session), Nghe An Provincial People's Council is expected to discuss and approve the Resolution on the policy of arranging commune-level administrative units in 2025.
The arrangement and renaming of administrative units aims to streamline the apparatus, improve the effectiveness of state management, and at the same time preserve historical and cultural values associated with local identity.
After the Resolution is issued, the Provincial People's Committee will prepare a Project dossier to submit to the Government before May 1, 2025.
The Ministry of Home Affairs then appraises and completes the dossier for the National Assembly Standing Committee to consider and decide before May 30, 2025.
