Hoài Luân |

Binh Dinh - March 28. The People's Council of Binh Dinh province has unanimously approved a Resolution on the policy of arranging administrative units in Gia Lai and Binh Dinh provinces.

Accordingly, the entire natural area and population of Gia Lai and Binh Dinh provinces will be merged, forming a new province named Gia Lai, with a total area of over 21,576.53 km2 and a population of over 3.58 million people. The new province will have 135 commune-level administrative units (including 110 communes and 25 wards). The new province's political and administrative center will be located in Quy Nhon City (currently Binh Dinh).

At the meeting, Provincial Party Secretary and Chairman of the People's Council of Binh Dinh province Ho Quoc Dung said that after 2 meetings, the Standing Committees of the Gia Lai and Binh Dinh Provincial Party Committees agreed to approve the Project to merge the two provinces.

"On demand, the project must submit to the Government before 1.5. Today, through the Resolution, tomorrow will be submitted to the Central Government. During the holiday, the provincial leaders and the standing department will continue to work through the ceremony, in order to keep up the scheme to merge the provincial merger," Mr. Ho Quoc Dung requested.

According to the draft Project on the arrangement of administrative units of Gia Lai and Binh Dinh provinces, the merger of the two provinces in the original state aims to ensure convenience in managing administrative boundaries, promoting the potential and advantages of land, population size and socio-economic development results, forming a new growth pole in the region.

The selection of the new province's name as Gia Lai and the location of the administrative - political center in Quy Nhon City (currently Binh Dinh province) is carried out in accordance with Resolution No. 60-NQ/TW dated April 12, 2025 of the 11th Conference of the 13th Party Central Committee; Decision No. 759/QDTTg dated April 14, 2025 of the Prime Minister.

Accordingly, the name of the new province - Gia Lai ensures the principle of using one of the existing names, in order to minimize document disruption, save budget, human resources, and time after the merger, minimizing the impact on people and businesses.

Quy Nhon City was chosen as the administrative - political center of the new province, because it is one of the major economic and political centers, with a central geographical location, convenient for traffic connection, regional linkages and meets planning conditions well, expanding urban development space in the future.
