On the evening of October 28, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha inspected, visited and encouraged people in deeply flooded areas in Hue City after the historic flood.

On Chi Lang Street (Phu Xuan Ward), where many households are still deeply flooded, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha visited, shared the difficulties, and encouraged people to try to overcome the damage and soon stabilize their lives.

The Deputy Prime Minister highly appreciated the proactive and united spirit of the Hue City government and people in responding to natural disasters; acknowledged the timely direction and safe operation of irrigation and hydroelectric reservoirs, contributing to reducing flood pressure and limiting damage to downstream areas. He emphasized that this is an valuable lesson in reservoir management and civil defense capabilities in the context of increasingly extreme and unpredictable natural disasters.

The Deputy Prime Minister requested local authorities to continue to support people to overcome the consequences of floods, ensure electricity, water safety, environmental sanitation; soon restore infrastructure, communication, and communication, not leaving any people hungry or cold.

Need to invest in irrigation infrastructure, reservoirs

After inspecting the situation, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha worked with the leaders of Hue City on the work of responding to and overcoming the consequences of the particularly heavy flood from October 25 to 28.

According to Chairman of Hue City People's Committee Phan Thien Dinh, the recent flood had rainfall exceeding historical levels, at Bach Ma peak it reached 2,690mm, causing widespread flooding in 32 communes and wards, more than 44,500 houses were flooded 1-2m deep. The whole city has evacuated 1,759 households with more than 4,500 people, mobilizing nearly 5,000 officers, soldiers and militia to participate in rescue.

Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha praised the Hue government and people for proactively responding to and operating reservoirs safely, reducing flood pressure and downstream damage. He highly appreciated Hue's warning and digital command system for its effectiveness, helping people respond promptly.

The Deputy Prime Minister requested to ensure electricity, water safety, environmental sanitation, promptly restore infrastructure, communication and support people in flooded areas. At the same time, ministries and branches are assigned to study Hue's proposals on investment, renovation of irrigation infrastructure, reservoirs, increasing the ability to regulate water and adapt to climate change.

This is a test of the management capacity and adaptability of local governments, it is necessary to learn from experience to build a sustainable development model, living safely with natural disasters - Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha emphasized.
