In the afternoon of May 14, in Hanoi, Politburo Member, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man worked with the Standing Committee of the National Defense, Security and Foreign Affairs Committee (Committee) on the implementation of key tasks in 2026.
Concluding, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man highly appreciated the Committee's activities in 2025 and the first 5 months of 2026.
According to the National Assembly Chairwoman, in 2025, the Committee will take on a very large volume of legislative work. Many draft laws have difficult and new contents, which must be developed and thẩm tra (verified/appraised) according to a shortened process in one session.
However, with a steadfast, persistent, and drastic spirit, along with solidarity, unity and serious working style, the Committee has excellently completed the assigned tasks, making an important contribution to the overall results of the National Assembly.
The National Assembly Chairwoman assessed that the National Assembly's foreign affairs work is increasingly becoming systematic and effective, making an important contribution to the implementation of the Party and State's foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, peace, friendship, cooperation and development, enhancing Vietnam's position in the international arena, and effectively serving economic development and firmly protecting national sovereignty and interests.

According to the National Assembly Chairwoman, to develop socio-economics, national defense and security must be ensured, and solid national defense and security will create a foundation for economic growth, cultural and social development, and building a political system.
Besides the achieved results, the National Assembly Chairwoman also frankly pointed out some limitations such as: some times, some tasks are still slow, especially in the field of foreign affairs; there are documents and submissions that do not ensure progress.
Some foreign affairs activities are still formalistic, and their actual effectiveness is not high; the information mechanism, task assignment, and handling of arising issues are sometimes not really strict; advising and proposing long-term strategic solutions for parliamentary foreign affairs in the new context is still limited.
The National Assembly Chairwoman requested the Committee to continue to promote the spirit of responsibility, proactively overcome limitations, and further improve the quality of advice and proposals; ensure that work is deployed promptly, closely to reality, and better meets the requirements of tasks in the new development stage of the country.
Regarding key tasks in the coming time, the National Assembly Chairwoman emphasized the urgent requirement to innovate thinking and working methods to be scientific, modern, fast, and effective.
To do so, it is necessary to promote the application of information technology, digital transformation and artificial intelligence (AI) in operations, ensuring discipline, order and promoting substantive efficiency, doing anything must have products.
The National Assembly Chairwoman also requested the Committee to improve the quality of advisory and strategic research; focus on advising on focused and key foreign affairs activities, bringing about practical efficiency, directly serving economic development, protecting national sovereignty and interests;
Focus on training and fostering officials working in foreign affairs, improving foreign language proficiency, research capacity, and modern parliamentary diplomacy skills; strengthen the application of digital technology, digital transformation in the preparation, organization and monitoring of foreign affairs activities to ensure timeliness, economy and efficiency.
