On June 30, An Giang province solemnly held a ceremony to announce Resolution No. 1654/NQ-UBTVQH15 dated June 16, 2025 of the Standing Committee of the 15th National Assembly on the arrangement of commune-level administrative units in the province. The ceremony was held online at many locations across the province.
The Resolution is an important legal basis for An Giang province to rearrange commune-level administrative units to streamline the apparatus, improve the effectiveness and efficiency of local government operations, in accordance with current and future socio-economic development conditions.
At the Tho Chau Special Zone bridge, the farthest from the new An Giang province, the Party Committee, government, and people were extremely excited and joyful to attend the announcement ceremony.
Tho Chau Party Committee announced the Resolution of the National Assembly Standing Committee on the arrangement of commune-level administrative units of An Giang province; Announcing the decisions of the An Giang Provincial Party Committee on the establishment of the Tho Chau Special Zone Party Committee; deciding to appoint the Tho Chau Special Zone Standing Committee for the 2025 - 2030 term.

Comrade Lam Minh Hien received the decision to hold the position of Secretary and Chairman of the People's Committee of Tho Chau Special Zone for the 2025-2030 term; Comrade Do Van Dung received the decision to hold the position of Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, Chairman of the People's Council of Tho Chau Special Zone for the 2025-2030 term; Comrade Tran Quoc Giang and Comrade Tran Thi Giao Ha held the position of Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Tho Chau Special Zone.
The arrangement of administrative units is not only a change in administrative boundaries, but also an important step to reorganize the apparatus, streamline the payroll, effectively use resources, better serve the people and the overall development of the province.
Tho Chau Special Zone (established from Tho Chau commune, Phu Quoc city) has an area of 13.98km2, population of 1,896 people. Tho Chau has a particularly important position in terms of national defense and security. Tho Chau is very far from the mainland and is located in the frontline of the southwestern sea of the Fatherland, where there is the A1 facility according to the sovereignty declaration on the basic route used to calculate the territorial extent in the Vietnamese sea. Adjacent to the international route by about 12 nautical miles, there is a historical sea area adjacent to the Kingdom of Cambodia located in the Gulf of Thailand, 101 km from the center of Phu Quoc City, 220 km from Rach Gia City.
