Prime Minister directs Can Tho to urgently arrange medical and educational facilities

The Prime Minister requested Can Tho City to accelerate the progress of arranging and using surplus public assets and headquarters; arranging medical and educational facilities.

On May 26, in Can Tho, Politburo Member, Prime Minister Le Minh Hung worked with the Standing Committee of the Can Tho City Party Committee on the implementation of socio-economic development tasks and the goal of double-digit growth, disbursement of public investment capital, operation of local government at 2 levels, ensuring national defense and security, building the Party, political system and removing difficulties and obstacles of the locality.

According to the Government Office, in his concluding remarks, the Prime Minister clearly stated that to achieve the goals and tasks of this year and for the entire term, Can Tho still has many limitations, difficulties, challenges, and many issues raised; in general, the role and potential of the city have not been fully promoted.

In the first quarter, the GRDP growth rate was among the lowest in the country, not reaching the set scenario (9.52%). Economic restructuring has not met requirements; disbursement of public investment is still a bottleneck; the quality of human resources is still limited, the proportion of workers with degrees and certificates is still low...

In the coming time, the Prime Minister emphasized the requirement to do well the tasks to serve the double-digit growth target, thereby ensuring social security, taking care of people's lives, developing health and education; implementing the strategic resolutions of the Politburo to serve the overall development goals of the country in general and Can Tho in particular.

The time of 2026 is very important and not much left, we must be determined and strive to break through, and that determination and effort for Can Tho must be much higher to achieve the set goals, develop quickly and sustainably; we still have room, we have opportunities, but how to organize and implement them," the Prime Minister said.

Believing that Can Tho has not boldly proposed a very specific mechanism to the Central Government to implement projects, the Prime Minister emphasized that Can Tho needs to thoroughly grasp the direction of the Central Government and the Politburo to innovate thinking and working methods, focusing on creating development.

Emphasizing that many large projects in Can Tho are of great significance not only to the locality but also to the Mekong Delta (Mekong Delta) region and the whole country, the Prime Minister requested to focus on attracting investment and accelerating the progress of implementing key projects and works of national and international scale, with regional linkage, connecting the growth poles of the City along 2 axes North - South, East - West; as well as energy infrastructure, soft infrastructure, education infrastructure, healthcare...

The Prime Minister noted that it is necessary to ensure the smooth operation of the local government apparatus at 2 levels, improve the effectiveness of public service performance; in particular, it is necessary to focus on arranging, assigning, training, and fostering commune-level officials. Accelerate the progress of arranging, managing, and using surplus public assets and headquarters; be proactive and flexible in organizing the apparatus and arranging personnel in accordance with needs and practical situations.

The Prime Minister also requested to effectively implement periodic health check-ups or free screenings for people at least once a year, especially for policy beneficiaries and ethnic minorities.

Urgently coordinate with the Ministry of Health and ministries and sectors to invest in synchronous development of Can Tho Central General Hospital and the system of medical facilities in the area; arrange medical and educational facilities.

Effectively implement social security, ethnic, and religious policies; build social housing, pilot the implementation of long-term rental housing at reasonable costs.
