On the afternoon of October 8, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Public Security jointly held an international press conference to open the signing of the United Nations Convention against Cybercrime in Hanoi (Hanoi Convention).
At the press conference, informing about the current situation of cybercrime in Vietnam, Major General Le Xuan Minh - Director of the Department of Cyber Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention, Ministry of Public Security - said: "The situation of cybercrime in Vietnam in recent times has been complicated in terms of scale, nature, and level of impact. In the past year, it is estimated that more than 100,000 cases were related to various types of attack crimes and cyber incidents".
Major General Le Xuan Minh noted that cybercriminal groups are gradually shifting their form from small, simple attacks to highly organized, international attacks and attacks on key systems of countries, on businesses holding large roles and positions in the economy.
At the same time, cybercrime is also complicated, especially crimes with collusion and involvement between countries.
Fraud crimes are a concern, a danger, and are also greatly affecting countries around the world.
The Director of the Department of Cyber Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention, Ministry of Public Security, said that Vietnam has taken many measures, carried out many international coordination and cooperation activities with the police and law enforcement agencies of countries to join hands in fighting these types of crimes.
He expressed his hope that when the United Nations Convention on Cybercrime Prevention is signed in Hanoi, ratified countries will create a new legal corridor, create a new legal framework for countries around the world to join hands to fight against cybercrimes, share criminal information, share signs of crimes as well as share and coordinate in investigating crimes, handling assets of crimes that exist and in extraditing crimes.
"We always want to build a cyberspace so that countries around the world can use cyberspace to serve the common cause of peace and development" - Major General Le Xuan Minh said.
