On October 24, at the National Assembly House, Politburo member and National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man met with President of the South African Republic Ciryl Ramaphosa, who is on a state visit to Vietnam from October 23-24.
National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man was pleased to welcome South African President Ciryl Ramaphosa and the high-ranking South African delegation on a state visit to Vietnam; saying that the visit will be an important milestone, opening a new phase in the Vietnam - South African relationship, deepening political trust, enhancing substantive and long-term cooperation for the benefit of the people of the two countries.
National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man affirmed that the Vietnamese National Assembly always attaches importance to and wishes to further promote the friendship and multifaceted cooperation with South Africa, making parliamentary cooperation an important and key pillar of bilateral relations; suggested that the two sides continue to increase exchanges of parliamentary delegations, especially the professional committees of the two countries' National Assemblies, exchanges of legislative experts and suggested that the two sides soon sign a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation between the two National Assemblies.
The National Assembly Chairman respectfully invited the South African National Assembly to send representatives to attend legislative seminars organized by the Vietnamese National Assembly in the coming time and hoped that the cooperation between the two countries' National Assemblies would be a model for the parliaments of the Southern Hemisphere countries to jointly deal with global challenges.
On this occasion, the National Assembly Chairman suggested that the Parliaments of the two countries continue to strengthen coordination, support each other and organize side-to-side bilateral meetings at multilateral parliamentary forums such as the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), the Association of Southeast Asian countries (AIPA) Parliamentary Assembly Council and groups of southern Hemisphere countries to jointly protect the interests of developing countries.
South African President Ciryl Ramaphosa thanked the warm welcome of National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man and Vietnamese leaders for the high-ranking delegation of South Africa, expressing his honor to visit the National Assembly of Vietnam during the visit.
Recalling the outstanding results of the visit and work with the South African National Assembly of Vice President of the Vietnamese National Assembly Vu Hong Thanh in July 2025 and the recent exchanges and delegation exchanges between the two legislative bodies, the South African President expressed his delight at the good development of the parliamentary relations between the two countries, saying that promoting parliamentary cooperation is an important factor to share experiences and contribute to building a rule of law state in each country.
The South African President affirmed the determination of the South African Government in enhancing bilateral cooperation, including cooperation between parliamentary bodies, commensurate with the good political relations and position of the two countries; and said that when the two countries officially upgrade their relations to a Strategic Partnership, the role of the legislative bodies of the two countries will be of essential significance to ensure the implementation of cooperation agreements.
Within the framework of the working program with the Vietnamese National Assembly, the South African President attended the 10th Session of the 15th National Assembly and visited the National Assembly Museum.
