Vietnam - Timor-Leste shares experiences in Party building, governance and national development

General Secretary and President proposed to promote sharing of Party building, governance, and national development experiences between Vietnam and Timor-Leste.

On June 10, at the Presidential Office Headquarters, General Secretary and President To Lam received Prime Minister of Timor-Leste Kay Rala Xanana Gusmao on the occasion of the Prime Minister's official visit to Vietnam and participation in the 3rd ASEAN Future Forum.

At the reception, General Secretary and President To Lam welcomed Prime Minister Kay Rala Xanana Gusmao's official visit to Vietnam; assessed that the visit is of great significance, creating new momentum, contributing to opening up a more substantive and effective stage of development in the good friendly relations between Vietnam and Timor-Leste.

The General Secretary and President affirmed that Vietnam will continue to support Timor-Leste in integrating and fully and effectively participating in ASEAN's cooperation mechanisms and programs.

Prime Minister of Timor-Leste Kay Rala Xanana Gusmao congratulated and highly appreciated Vietnam for successfully organizing the third ASEAN Futures Forum (AFF), creating a forum for policymakers, scholars, businesses, especially youth, to participate in the process of building visions for ASEAN in the coming years.

General Secretary and President To Lam affirmed that Vietnam always values and wishes to strengthen friendly relations and multifaceted cooperation with Timor-Leste; supports Timor-Leste's independence, peace, prosperous development and regional and international integration.

General Secretary and President highly appreciated the results of the talks between Prime Minister Kay Rala Xanana Gusmao and Politburo Member, Prime Minister Le Minh Hung, believing that the results achieved during the visit will create an important framework and foundation to bring bilateral cooperation to a deeper and more substantive level.

Exchanging views on the direction of cooperation in the coming time, General Secretary and President To Lam requested the two countries to continue to consolidate political relations, strengthen delegation exchanges, high-level contacts and people-to-people exchanges; promote relations between the Communist Party of Vietnam and the Party of the National Congress for the Reconstruction of Timor-Leste, and share experiences in Party building, governance and national development.

General Secretary and President To Lam also proposed that the two sides promote defense and security cooperation, respond to traditional and non-traditional security challenges; expand economic, trade and investment cooperation in potential fields such as oil and gas, mining, agriculture, telecommunications, digital transformation and human resource training; and strengthen cooperation in education and training, tourism and people-to-people exchanges based on the cooperation documents just signed, including the Agreement on visa exemption for people holding ordinary passports and the Memorandum of Understanding on educational cooperation.

Prime Minister of Timor-Leste Kay Rala Xanana Gusmao thanked and highly appreciated the orientations for bilateral relations that the General Secretary and President mentioned; wished the two sides to soon organize the first meeting of the Bilateral Cooperation Committee to specifically exchange on plans and areas of cooperation, including considering areas where Vietnam can support Timor-Leste to strengthen economic autonomy, develop private enterprises, improve institutions, and develop infrastructure.
