The British Parliament competition format in the English Group of the Green Voice Contest season 3 is considered an impressive innovation, helping candidates practice multidimensional thinking and discuss more deeply on green topics.

Distinguishing and toan cau hoa are the impressions of Ms. Hyewon Rho CEO of Debate For All, Head Coach of the Vietnam team at the World Bank for defence Championships and also Professional Advisor of the Green Voice competition season 3.

According to Ms. Hyewon Rho, if in other playgrounds, candidates often only research and develop personal ideas, then The Voice Blue creates an opportunity for them to listen, criticize and compare.

The contest not only revolves around environmental issues, but also opens up space for students to participate in deeper dialogue and open up thinking, Ms. Hyewon Rho shared.

New format challenges students' thinking and bravery

Following the success of the previous two seasons, The Green Voice season 3 marked a new step forward when it first applied the British Parliamentary - BP competition format for the English group. This new point is expected to help the competition select the excellent teams to enter the Competition Round, held directly at VinUni University.

According to MSc. Phan My Linh - co-founder of the Vietnam Debate Federation, the BP format requires candidates to build convincing arguments, proving why their team is doing better than their team, while pointing out weaknesses in the arguments of the opposing team.

This multidimensional thinking style is very brain-hacking, requiring students to be flexible, highly focused and constantly renew their approach to problems, said MSc. Phan My Linh.

According to the English Parliament competition format, each round will consist of 4 teams. The two teams are on the same side and the two teams are opposing an argument raised by the Organizing Committee. This form requires even teams on the same side to give their own unique and convincing views, because they not only compete with the opposing side, but also compete with their own "allies".

The parallel competition format of the 4 teams requires the contestants to exploit the theme in many different aspects through many creative perspectives, Ms. Hyewon emphasized. This change helps candidates broaden their perspective and discuss more diverse topics in the field of sustainable development and green future. For example, even in the first rounds of the group submitting project ideas on green transportation, in the debate round, students may have to defend or argue about green tourism, green education...".

Preview for the Green Voice to reach international

The BP debate also has a higher requirement because the contestant must not only prove my idea is good, but also clarify my idea is better than other ideas. According to Hyewon Rho, this is the foundation of critical thinking: doesnt just accept everything you hear and agree with everything you see, you need to always ask yourself, Is that right?, How to make it better and What is more convincing?.

Meanwhile, MSc. Phan My Linh said that the form of competition BP requires students to read widely, understand deeply and pay attention to domestic and international issues. "The exam will not be announced in advance, so students are required to have a spirit of learning, exploration and confidence to be ready to respond to any topic."

According to MSc. Phan My Linh, applying BP is not only a professional step forward but also putting the Green Voice in the international standard trajectory, opening up opportunities for a big playground.

This is the era of Vietnams rise, and the contest is responsible for accompanying and bringing students to access the world-class competition format, Ms. Linh acknowledged.

Ms. Hyewon Rho also expressed her hope that the implementation of the BP format in season 3 will be a stepping stone for The Voice to expand to the whole of Asia, even further:

I believe that we will not only witness excellent debates from Vietnamese students, but can also build the competition into a large enough platform to bring them closer to the international playground, said Ms. Hyewon Rho.

The "Green Voice" speech and debate contest is a project under the Green Education program, part of the Cooperation Agreement between the Ministry of Education and Training and the Green Future Fund - Vingroup Corporation for the period 2023-2028.
