Slatterly beating her second child
In the last days of 2025, the small house of her grandmother in village 11, Xuan Du commune, Thanh Hoa province, was covered in a sad atmosphere. The parents of Ms. Ngan Thao Vy (29 years old) and her daughter are in a committed committed committed committed committed here after a long period of treatment of their two young children in the hospital.
Sharing with PV of Lao Dong Newspaper, Ms. Vy choked up as she said that in 2018, she married Mr. Luu Van Thuc (32 years old) in happiness, hoping for a peaceful home. In 2019, the couple welcomed their first daughter, Tram Anh, who was as healthy and plump as any other child.
After that, to make a living, the couple gave their children to their grandparents and then went to Bac Ninh to work as workers. Shortly after, Ms. Vy returned to her hometown and applied to teach at a kindergarten in Trieu Son district to earn an income and be close to her children.
In 2023, she gave birth to her second son, Dat. In the first months of life, the child often cried, but the couple thought it was just a normal physiological phenomenon. In 2024, when they saw their child becoming increasingly uncomfortable and slow to develop, the couple took him to Hanoi for examination. The diagnostic results made both of them speechless: Dat had cerebral palsy and quadriplegia.
When the doctor said my child had cerebral palsy, I was hit by lightning. But no matter how painful it is, my husband and I cannot give up, Ms. Vy said in tears.
No more ways back when disasters are everywhere
To keep hope for her son, Ms. Vy was forced to quit her job and take her child to Quang Phu ward, nearly 40km from her home, to rent a room near the physical therapy center for treatment. All living expenses and medicine depend on the small salary of Mr. Thuc, a painter working away from home.
"Each hour of training for my child costs about 250,000 VND. Because I didn't have enough money, I only dared to let my child practice for an hour. Later, I was so confused that I could not rent a room anymore and would go home with my mother and I to save money, Ms. Vy choked up.
The tragedy had not yet come to an end, but in October 2024, disasters continued to crumble. little Tram Anh suddenly had a high fever that lasted for a long time, complained of leg pain, and lost weight quickly. The test results at the hospital almost caused the young mother to collapse: her daughter had leukemia and was forced to be hospitalized for emergency treatment.
When I heard that my child had cancer, I was almost completely devastated. No job, no money, I had times thinking, just wanting to forget everything. But seeing her child, I don't have to", Ms. Vy cried.
Since both of his children were seriously ill, Mr. Thuc was forced to quit his job to be on duty with his wife in bed. The cost of cancer treatment for Tram Anh was too high, making it impossible for her to continue her rehabilitation workout, leading to increasingly severe stiffness.
"The daughter has just undergone her first chemotherapy, and the son needs to practice therapy every day. The money I borrowed was gone, now my husband and I really don't know where to go," Ms. Vy said sadly.
Cries for help from the family
Ms. Le Thi Viet (57 years old), Vy's biological mother, choked up as she said that since the children started to get sick, both in-laws and parents have tried their best to support, but the condition has been prolonged, the treatment cost is high, beyond the family's ability to farm.
"I'm old, it's okay to have any family background. But seeing the children so young that they are in pain every day, I feel so sorry. Many nights, my child cried, I could only hug him and cry with him, Ms. Viet said in tears.
Talking to a reporter from Lao Dong Newspaper, a representative of the People's Committee of Xuan Du Commune, Thanh Hoa Province confirmed that Ms. Vy's family situation is extremely difficult, both of their children have serious illnesses, while their family income is almost gone.
"The locality, relatives and neighbors have joined hands to support, but only partly. We hope that through press agencies, organizations, and philanthropists, we will continue to care and help so that the family has more conditions to treat and save the lives of the two children, said a representative of Xuan Du Commune People's Committee.
