Ba Ria - Vung Tau seeks opportunities in low tourist season

Ba Ria - Vung Tau tourism in low season in 2024. Businesses are trying to find solutions to stimulate demand, or invest in regenerating and upgrading service quality.

Number of visitors decreased sharply since September

After 8 months of strong growth compared to the same period last year, since mid-September, the number of domestic tourists to Ba Ria - Vung Tau has decreased sharply, due to many reasons, such as students entering the new school year; the peak season of storms and rains is not favorable for tourism...

According to statistics, in the first 8 months of 2024, Ba Ria - Vung Tau had a growth of about 17% in both total number of visitors and accommodation revenue. However, up to now, records at accommodation establishments show that the number of visitors has decreased sharply.

According to a representative of Carmelina Beach Resort, the room occupancy rate in September was below 20% on weekdays, focusing on guests taking advantage of golden hour promotions. There were more guests on weekends, but still less than 40%. “Realizing that market demand had dropped sharply, we boldly closed some days of the week to focus on major maintenance and renovation of facilities and staff training,” the representative of this resort informed.

Some businesses also take advantage of this time to implement reinvestment activities, or organize tours and vacations for employees to restore labor and unite the team. For example, Malibu Vung Tau Hotel is accelerating the completion of its facilities, upgrading to 5 stars in October 2024 with the strength of many resort packages, MICE packages at reasonable prices...

Or organize to increase marketing, listen to the needs of customers and partners to create products with suitable prices, reasonable pricing strategies to stimulate tourism... to generate revenue, reduce gaps during the low tourist season.

A series of measures to stimulate demand and attract customers

To maintain operations, stabilize facilities, and pay employees, tourism businesses must have a source of revenue to sustain themselves. Therefore, many businesses have applied measures to stimulate, increase demand, and boost spending on tourism to generate revenue and profit.

At the Emerald Ho Tram Resort project, this unit has taken advantage of the ideal long beach to organize teambuilding activities. Along with 5-star standard facilities, reasonable costs offered during the low season (only about 1.2 million VND/guest/day including accommodation, breakfast buffet...), this unit has attracted many groups of guests to relax and have fun on the beach; or organize meetings and corporate events.

Or Carmelina Beach Resort plans to coordinate the organization of the Vietnam Open pickleball tournament scheduled for mid-October 2024; estimated to attract more than 400 domestic and foreign athletes to compete in 3 days. This unit is also promoting online sales channels to overseas markets, focusing on cold winter countries to attract winter visitors.

In addition to the accommodation facilities’ programs, the locality also participates in the low-season tourism stimulus plan. Districts with strengths in tourism have implemented programs to increase capacity and tourism revenue during the last months of the year.

For example, Con Dao district has announced preferential packages for room rates, train tickets and schedules of events and festivals taking place from now until early 2025. Thereby, visitors can grasp a series of incentives from facilities and service businesses in the area. In addition, there are a series of event and festival programs such as: "Fly lightly to Con Dao", a quick walking tour through Co Ong - Dat Tham; the death anniversary of Mrs. Phi Yen; the death anniversary of the People's Armed Forces Hero Vo Thi Sau...

The sports sector is also preparing to organize national sports competitions in disciplines such as judo; pencak silat; aerobics; traditional martial arts; volleyball; socialized running competitions... scheduled to take place in October and November 2024.

In addition, the Provincial Tourism Association is also developing and implementing plans to promote Ba Ria - Vung Tau tourism in the Mekong Delta and South Central regions.

Mr. Trinh Hang - Director of the Department of Tourism - said that before the low season, the tourism industry has organized to promote connections, open up the Korean tourist market; connect with shipping lines; promote to the Indian market and some countries with cold winters to attract winter visitors.

In early September 2024, Ba Ria - Vung Tau businesses welcomed leading travel businesses from China, Thailand and the UAE (United Arab Emirates) to survey services and promote destinations.

"In addition to plans to promote and organize cultural and sports events, the Department is developing and finalizing a plan to organize Tourism Week 2024, scheduled for November 2024, and submitting it to the Provincial People's Committee for consideration and approval," Mr. Hang informed.
