In the campus of Pho Minh Pagoda (also known as Thap Pagoda) in Nam Dinh ward, Ninh Binh province, there exists an ancient muỗm tree with a history of more than 300 years. This muỗm tree surprises many people because the trunk is hollow but still green and vibrant, growing strongly through many rainy and sunny seasons. This is not only a symbol of ancient nature, but also a treasure preserved and respected by people and pagodas.

In 2012, two ancient muỗm trees were recognized by the Vietnam Association for Conservation of Nature and Environment as Vietnamese heritage trees.
The muỗm tree is located right at the right entrance of Pho Minh Tower, nearly 20m high with a thick trunk with a diameter of about 1m. The unique hollow trunk forms the shape of a small natural "cave", but all branches and leaves are still lush green, casting shade throughout the pagoda courtyard.

For a long time, the heritage muỗm tree has welcomed everyone every time they enter the pagoda, life emanates from both the hollow trunk and the lush green foliage. Many tourists when visiting the pagoda stop to admire and express surprise at the persistent vitality of this ancient tree.
According to Nun Thich Dam Thoan - Vice Abbot of Pho Minh Pagoda, in the pagoda grounds there are currently two ancient muỗm trees, both of which are over 300 years old. The hollow tree lies on the right hand side from the entrance, has been hollow for more than half a century but still stands firmly in the wind and rain.
In recent years, the pagoda has always closely coordinated with local authorities and the Management Board of Tran Temple - Pagoda historical and cultural relic site (now the Management Board of Nam Dinh Ward Relic Site) to preserve muỗm trees as well as many other ancient trees in the pagoda. In addition, every year, trees are supplemented with fertilizer, new soil is added around the base, termites are treated and large branches are reinforced to limit the risk of falling.

Today, the muỗm tree at Pho Minh Pagoda is a vivid proof of its lasting vitality, existing for many centuries. In addition to 2 muỗm trees over 300 years old, in the campus of Pho Minh Pagoda there are also many other ancient trees. Among them, there is a banyan tree over 100 years old, the trunk is hollow but still green and lush.
