Due to not having regular cleaning?
After Lao Dong Newspaper's reflection on "Ngu Phung Tower deteriorated after 4 years of restoration without annual maintenance", the Hue Monuments Conservation Center (Center) established a team to inspect the deterioration and colorful painting at Ngu Phung Tower.
Previously, a representative of this Center explained that the reason for Ngu Phung tower deterioration was due to the harsh weather in Hue affecting the quality of the project.
Responding to a reporter from Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Le Van Quang - former Deputy Director in charge of the Institute of Science and Technology of Construction - the unit that carried out the restoration of Ngu Phung tower in both stages, said that the wooden pillars of Ngu Phung tower were used with paint paint paint with a temperature above 65 degrees Celsius. It is mandatory to use cau oil, part of the cau oil to create shine, while contributing to keeping the wood surface from peeling.

According to Mr. Quang, after a period of time, the gray black layer of dust will easily stick to the structure due to the reaction of crab oil, leading to the phenomenon of silver-colored wood products with black spots, if cleaned regularly, the above phenomenon will not occur.
The press agencies reflecting that the silver Liu Ngu Phung is completely accurate. When the restoration process was completed, I built an annual maintenance process, which clearly stipulates how to clean, check which items, how to handle cracks, because the project is guaranteed for 2 years. When handing over, I emphasized to the Center that it is necessary to clean regularly" - Mr. Quang said.

Responsibility will be considered
Regarding the maintenance and repair of Ngu Phung tower, Mr. Phan Van Tuan - Deputy Director of the Center said that the unit will clean and repair peeling locations.
"After this period, regular inspections will be conducted and there will be a periodic maintenance plan to ensure long-term quality" - Mr. Tuan affirmed.
When asked about the responsibility for letting Ngu Phung Lake deteriorate and change color, Mr. Tuan said that he would hold a meeting to discuss, evaluate and handle the responsibility of related individuals and groups.

According to a reporter from Lao Dong Newspaper, the Center is handling the situation of silver and black spots at the relic by giving people a foam and rice paper, using detergent, towels and water to clean the pillars, and using a handkerchief to dry the dust on the wooden boards.
In fact, some wooden planks are cleaned with wet dough sticks and are somewhat effective when many layers of dust have been treated. However, the use of a strong scrap of Escarpment on the monument's pillar took flight to the outer protective layer of the pillar.

When asked by reporters about whether the use of spherical paper affects the relic or not, Mr. Le Van Quang said that Ngu Phung tower has 70% new wood and 30% old wood. Old wood is certainly not gray, while new wood is easily affected.
"Different from other projects, here I do it using the same method as lacquer paint: When making a layer, just grade it, do not sweep it directly and leave it there. That is the reason for using a spying certificate, Mr. Quang explained.
As Lao Dong has reported, in mid-May 2025, many items of Ngu Phung tower (Ngo Mon) are seriously degraded, the wooden columns appear black, silver, and painted peeling.
Most of the structures made of ironwood such as doors, ceilings,ep, railings... have withered and become unstable in every small detail.

During the restoration period lasting from 2012 to 2019 (the most recent restoration), Ngo Mon was completely restored, including many important items such as: Renovation of the base and Ngu Phungau ( affairs of the foundation, cleaning of the fund, restoration of railings, brick floors as well as repair of the door arch system below the fund).
At the same time, repair the roof decoration and treatment of preservation and fireproofing for the project; paint all Ngu Phungau go components (the two floors of the main house and Ta, Huu Duc Lau) with traditional painting techniques; interior lighting and fire protection system according to modern techniques....
At that time, the restoration of Ngo Mon was divided into two stages 2012 - 2015 and 2016 - 2019 with an investment capital of more than 80 billion VND. Of which, phase 2, the project is invested with a budget of about 44 billion VND. However, after only 4 years of operation and use, Ngu Phung tower has clearly "shaped".
