Talking to reporters, Mr. Nguyen Minh An (Hung Yen province) said that on the afternoon of the 3rd day of Tet, he drove his car carrying his wife and children from Thai Binh ward (Hung Yen province) across the Phap Van - Cau Gie highway to Hanoi city for spring travel.
At the time I went into the highway, the density of vehicles started to increase. However, vehicles still could move at high speed. There was a slight fog. When I reached the section near Hanoi city, there was a slight congestion, my family took about nearly 20 more minutes to travel compared to normal," Mr. An said.
According to information displayed on Google Maps at 4:50 PM on February 19, the starting point of the Phap Van - Cau Gie expressway, traffic congestion stretched for about 1km.
Talking to a reporter from Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Vu Ngoc Oanh - Deputy General Director of Phap Van - Cau Gie BOT Joint Stock Company - said that during Tet, the number of vehicles circulating through the Phap Van - Cau Gie expressway increased about 1.5 times compared to normal days.
On normal days, the number of vehicles passing through the expressway is about 80,000 - 90,000 vehicles/day. On Tet days, the number of vehicles increases to about 125,000 vehicles/day. Therefore, congestion is inevitable," Mr. Oanh said.
Mr. Vu Ngoc Oanh also added that congestion mainly occurs in areas preparing to enter the city, with sections congested for about 1km, especially the section connecting to Ring Road 3.
To prevent congestion, functional forces recommend that people regularly update traffic information to choose suitable travel routes.
At the same time, it is necessary to comply with the Law on Road Traffic Order and Safety and the guidance of functional forces to ensure safety during the Lunar New Year.
During Tet days, the traffic situation is mainly crowded from 6 am to 10 pm daily. After 10 pm, the traffic flow is also more fluid," added the Deputy General Director of Phap Van - Cau Gie BOT Joint Stock Company.
Previously, yesterday (February 18), Ring Road 3, Phap Van - Cau Gie expressway also experienced prolonged congestion for kilometers.
