Vice Chairman of Bac Ninh Provincial People's Committee Phan The Tuan has just signed and issued an official dispatch agreeing with the policy of stopping the operation of Dong Viet ferry terminal at the request of the Department of Construction.
Dong Viet ferry terminal was put into operation in 1997, located on DT. 299 route in Yen Dung district, Bac Giang province (now Dong Viet commune, Bac Ninh province) to Chi Linh district, Hai Duong province (now Tran Hung Dao ward, Hai Phong city) with the task of transporting people and vehicles across the Thuong River.
For many years, this has been an important traffic route serving the travel and trade needs of people in the two localities.
However, after Dong Viet Bridge was completed and put into use from December 2025, the demand for ferry travel decreased sharply.
According to a report by Bac Giang Road Joint Stock Company, currently the ferry terminal only operates 1-2 trips per day, and some days does not generate any trips; vehicles passing through the ferry are mainly bicycles and motorbikes, without cars. Maintaining the operation of the ferry terminal no longer ensures economic efficiency.
In addition, in recent years, extreme weather diễn biến, river water levels in the ferry terminal area often rise during the rainy and flood season, causing difficulties for exploitation activities and potential risks of waterway traffic unsafety.
Thus, stopping the operation of Dong Viet Ferry Terminal is necessary, suitable to the actual situation and ensuring waterway traffic safety.
Bac Ninh Provincial People's Committee assigned Bac Giang Road Joint Stock Company to preside over and coordinate with Dong Viet Commune People's Committee and Tran Hung Dao Ward People's Committee to widely announce so that people know and proactively choose a suitable traffic direction.
The Department of Construction presides over and coordinates with the Department of Finance to guide the management and preservation of road traffic infrastructure assets in the ferry terminal area; advise on asset handling plans to ensure thrift, efficiency, and avoid loss and waste. At the same time, continue to monitor people's travel situation to promptly advise on solutions to ensure traffic safety and meet actual travel needs.
