narrow, degraded road
National Highway 28 is one of the main routes of the Central Central Highlands, starting from Phan Thiet (Binh Thuan) and ending at Ea T'ling town (Dak Nong).
This route plays an essential role in connecting Binh Thuan, Lam Dong and Dak Nong provinces.
National Highway 28, 310.8 km long, is an important bridge between National Highway 1A and Ho Chi Minh Road, helping to promote trade and develop the local economy.
However, the scale of a grade IV mountainous road is narrow and has degraded, so it is no longer suitable for the increasing traffic volume.
In particular, the roads through Quang Khe Pass and areas frequently affected by floods such as Dong Nai 3&4, are becoming a concern for people and vehicles.
The difficulties of heavy trucks and passenger cars on these sections of the road have reduced the efficiency of the route, hindering the socio-economic development of the area.
Therefore, the implementation of investment in renovating and upgrading National Highway 28 is extremely necessary and urgent.
Especially in the current context, the central government has issued a resolution to merge provinces. Accordingly, Dak Nong, Lam Dong and Binh Thuan provinces will merge into one province, named Lam Dong.
About VND7,700 billion is needed to upgrade the entire route
To create development momentum for the area, the Dak Nong Provincial People's Committee has assigned the Department of Construction to preside over the development of a draft report on the investment plan to renovate and upgrade National Highway 28.
The Department of Construction has discussed with the Departments of Construction of Lam Dong and Binh Thuan to develop an investment plan for the route and propose it to the Government.
The goal is to renovate the entire route, with a total estimated cost of about VND 7,700 billion.
If capital cannot be balanced enough, the project will be divided into investment phases, with priority given to upgrading the section from Phan Thiet (Binh Thuan) to Gia Nghia (Dak Nong), 77.3 km long, with a total cost of about VND4,900 billion. This will help the locality gradually complete the infrastructure, creating conditions for socio-economic development, especially after the three provinces are merged.
The project not only improves the quality of transport infrastructure but also contributes to strengthening national security and defense for the area. When Dak Nong, Lam Dong and Binh Thuan provinces cooperate closely in infrastructure development, it will certainly create a strong transport network, supporting sustainable economic development.
Mr. Pham Van Manh, Deputy Director of the Dak Nong Department of Construction, said that the implementation of the National Highway 28 renovation project is a necessary step, very meaningful to the locality.
Hopefully, with support from the Central Government, the project will soon be implemented, bringing practical benefits to the people, promoting socio-economic development for the locality and the region.
