Accordingly, since the beginning of the year, the whole province of Cao Bang has had 79 forest fires, damaging 144.6 hectares, including forest area, grass and bushes, of which the forest area is 75.45 hectares.
The main reason comes from the prolonged dry weather, people in localities at high risk of forest fires have not been able to control the fire source during production and farming in forests and along streams.
In addition, forest development is facing difficulties due to dry weather, leading to a sharp decrease in new forest planting area. Currently, the total forest planting area is about 240 hectares, equal to 25% over the same period.
The total exploitation volume reached over 5,247m3. Violation of the Forestry Law 145 cases (112 cases, 76 administrative sanctions, 109 criminal cases have been handled). The forest area is estimated to have decreased by 88.197 hectares, 8.9 times higher than the same period, of which the forest area has decreased largely due to forest fires, deforestation, and encroachment on forests.
In addition to forest fires, there have been a number of fires at households' homes in recent times, leaving serious consequences. On July 6, a fire in Thieng Na hamlet, Ly Bon commune burned down almost the entire house of Mr. Ma Giang Pa. The fire caused a loss of nearly 100 million VND.
To effectively prevent and fight forest fires, the province has directed functional forces to increase propaganda, inspection, and handling of violations in forest management, protection and forest fire prevention and fighting.
At the same time, proactively develop a forest fire prevention and fighting plan, actively and proactively implement the "4 on-site" motto; strengthen the inspection of existing forest areas, focusing on natural forest areas.
