Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony of the project, Minister of Construction Tran Hong Minh said that our country has put 2021 km into operation, about 3,000 km will be put into operation by the end of 2025 and about 5,000 km will be put into operation by the end of 2050.
The Hanoi - Thai Nguyen - Bac Kan - Cao Bang economic corridor plays an important role in connecting the northern mountainous provinces with the capital Hanoi. Currently, traffic infrastructure has been formed connecting Hanoi to Thai Nguyen province.
The Cho Moi - Bac Kan expressway will soon connect Bac Kan City with Hanoi, meeting the convenient transportation needs, gradually completing the road network planning for the period 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050, contributing to the implementation of the goals of Resolution 11-NQ/TW of the Politburo on socio-economic development, ensuring national defense and security in the midland and mountainous areas of the North.
To ensure the project is completed on schedule, Minister Tran Hong Minh suggested that the People's Committee of Bac Kan province continue to focus and resolutely organize site clearance. The province needs to support the quick settlement of procedures for granting licenses for the exploitation of construction material mines. During the implementation process, the locality ensured security, order, and convenient and safe traffic organization for the people.
The Minister also requested investors, supervision consultants, design consultants and construction contractors to promote the highest sense of responsibility, develop construction plans and solutions scientifically, in accordance with actual conditions, ensure progress, quality, safety, and environmental hygiene. Units absolutely comply with the technical requirements of the Project and relevant legal regulations, not allowing corruption, negativity, or waste.
The Minister also requested relevant ministries and branches to continue to pay attention, coordinate with the Ministry of Construction, support guidance, and promptly remove difficulties and obstacles arising in the implementation of projects.

According to information from the Ministry of Construction, the Cho Moi - Bac Kan Expressway starts at Km0+00 connecting the Thai Nguyen - Cho Moi Expressway, Cho Moi District, Bac Kan Province. The end point of the project connects the Bac Kan - Cao Bang expressway, Bac Kan city, Bac Kan province. The total length of the route is about 28.8km. Of which, the expressway is about 28.4km long, the section connecting to National Highway 3B and connecting to Bac Kan - Ba Be Lake road is 0.4km long.
The project has a total investment of about VND 5,750 billion (of which compensation, support and resettlement costs are about VND 574 billion) from the State budget investment capital.
Consulting on the establishment of an investment project is the Joint Venture of Transport Design Consulting Corporation - JSC (TEDI) and Truong Son Consulting Joint Stock Company; Technical design consulting is the Joint Venture of Truong Son Consulting Joint Stock Company - Traffic Construction Investment Consulting Joint Stock Company 1 - A2Z Construction Consulting Joint Stock Company; Supervision consulting is the Joint Venture of Thang Long Construction Quality Supervision Consulting Joint Stock Company - Traffic Construction Consulting Joint Stock Company 2 - Road and Airport Institute.
In terms of design, the expressway is designed according to TCVN 5729:2012 standards, with a design speed of 80km/h. The cross-section scale, the expressway has 4 lanes, the roadbed is 22 m wide. The project consists of 18 bridges with a total bridge length of 4.66 km, including 16 bridges on the expressway and 02 bridges across the expressway.
After the project is completed, the Cho Moi - Bac Kan route will connect with the Hanoi - Thai Nguyen - Cho Moi route to ensure synchronization in scale, gradually completing the expressway connecting the capital Hanoi with the Northern Midlands and Mountainous provinces.
The project is expected to contribute to creating a connecting traffic network, unified with the road system in the area, as well as with neighboring provinces; solving the smooth circulation of inter-provincial vehicles, reducing traffic congestion and traffic accidents, contributing to promoting socio-economic development, enhancing national security and defense in the area, while creating space for urban development to attract investment activities, especially in the tourism industry, contributing to improving and enhancing the quality of life of people with projects passing through.
