ITS system near completion
On May 29, representatives of the Ho Chi Minh Road Project Management Board said that the unit is deploying the installation of a smart traffic system on the Van Ninh - Cam Lo expressway.
According to the Ho Chi Minh Road Project Management Board, the entire route is equipped with 78 AI cameras. This system has the task of monitoring traffic, detecting vehicles, and identifying violations and incidents on the route to serve the management and operation of the expressway.
Along with the AI camera system, the project is also equipped with 8 VMS electronic signs, 16 information instruction signs and 4 electronic toll collection stations with a total of 14 lanes.
The Van Ninh - Cam Lo expressway is also arranged with 7 automatic weighing lanes in the lanes entering the toll station, thereby strengthening vehicle load control, contributing to ensuring traffic safety and protecting road infrastructure.

When completed, all data from the equipment on the route will be connected to the Operation Center located at the National Highway 9D intersection. This is an important platform to serve the management, supervision and operation of the expressway in a modern and synchronous direction.
By the end of May 2026, the installation volume of ITS equipment on the Van Ninh - Cam Lo expressway has reached about 95%.
Sticking to the middle line in harsh sunlight
The completion of the smart transportation system on the route is considered important, especially in the context of the increasing traffic volume on the North-South expressway. The ITS system will support rapid detection of unusual situations, traffic incidents, congestion, vehicles stopping and parking improperly or unsafe risks on the route.
From the data transmitted to the operating center, the management unit can monitor the traffic situation in real time, issue warnings, regulate and coordinate to handle incidents promptly. This is also the basis for improving the operation efficiency of the expressway after being put into synchronous operation.
In recent days, in the scorching sun, the team implementing the smart transportation system project on the Van Ninh - Cam Lo expressway is still diligently sticking to the route to accelerate the completion of the final items.

In conditions where the road surface and bridge surface absorb heat intensely, tasks such as cable pulling, camera installation, pole erection, outdoor electrical cabinet installation become a major challenge for construction teams. Many teams have to work in shifts from 4-5 am, resting to avoid the sun at noon and then continue construction until evening to keep up with the progress.
“Some days the outdoor temperature reaches 41 degrees Celsius, standing on the bridge surface feels very hot, but the brothers still try to stick to the construction site for the goal of completing the entire equipment installation in early June 2026” - representative of ITS Van Ninh - Cam Lo Project Management of ELCOM Technology - Telecommunications Joint Stock Company, the unit leading the joint venture, informed.
Unlike the construction items inside the station building, most ITS items must be deployed directly outside the operating route. Each construction site is only fenced off for a short time to limit impact on traffic flow. This forces the construction teams to closely coordinate with the traffic police force and road management unit to complete the work as soon as possible.
The Van Ninh - Cam Lo expressway is more than 65km long, passing through the former Quang Binh and Quang Tri provinces, now Quang Tri province. This is one of the component projects in the 2021-2025 period of the North-South Expressway in the East, invested by the Ho Chi Minh Road Project Management Board.
