On December 3, Mr. Tran Van Lau - Secretary of Vinh Long Provincial Party Committee - said that the province has approved many large-scale projects and works of great significance to register to organize the groundbreaking and inauguration to celebrate the 14th National Congress of the Party, taking place on December 19.
According to Mr. Lau, 2 projects will be started on this occasion, including: Dinh Khao Bridge Construction Investment Project, connecting the two banks of Co Chien River and Social Housing Project in the administrative and residential area of Long Chau Ward. At the same time, it is expected to inaugurate the Phu Thuan Industrial Park Infrastructure Construction Project.
The leaders of Vinh Long province emphasized that the construction of Dinh Khao bridge to replace Dinh Khao ferry will shorten the time for transporting goods and passengers, create momentum to promote local socio-economic development, and at the same time improve connectivity with provinces in the Mekong Delta region.
The Dinh Khao Bridge project has a total investment of more than VND 2,852 billion, implemented in the form of public-private partnership (PPP), with the Vinh Long Provincial Traffic Project Management Board as the investor. The project is more than 4km long, in which the main bridge over the Co Chien River is designed with 4 lanes, maximum speed of 80km/h. The starting point intersects with Provincial Road 902 in Nhon Phu commune, adjacent to the National Highway 57 bypass; the end point connects with National Highway 57.
Currently, National Highway 57 is about 103 km long, an axis connecting Vinh Long with neighboring provinces. However, Dinh Khao ferry terminal across the Co Chien River is a traffic jam. Dinh Khao Bridge is expected to overcome congestion, ensure connection to the national highway and expressway system, and shorten travel time between Vinh Long and provinces in the region.

According to a reporter from Lao Dong Newspaper, Dinh Khao ferry terminal connecting National Highway 57 every day welcomes thousands of vehicles and people. Every holiday, Tet or when there is a technical problem, the ferry is often overloaded, causing serious traffic congestion.
Mr. Nguyen Tuan Kiet (residing in Vinh Long province) said that not only does it affect travel, the congestion at the ferry terminal also leads to many other consequences. Cargo transport vehicles face difficulties in transportation, time loss, etc. Therefore, for generations, people have long hoped for a bridge across the Co Chien River.
Every holiday and Tet holiday is the time when truck drivers pass Cho Lach (old Ben Tre province) to transport flowers, ornamental plants and fruits to supply the provinces and cities. However, having to wait for a ferry to exceed the clock, with many vehicles and many people without a bridge makes it difficult to transport goods, said Mr. Kiet.
