On December 10, the leader of the People's Committee of Quang Tri province confirmed that he had sent a document to the Prime Minister reporting on the handling of the landslide incident in households in Khe Sanh commune.
Previously, on November 16-17, a particularly heavy rain caused a serious landslide in the stream slope behind the Hung Vuong residential area. The landslide is about 170m long, 15m deep, 30m wide, over 5,000m2 in area; damaged the rear of the two houses, cracked from 1-10m and threatened the safety of 10 adjacent houses. The houses are all solidly packed with 2-4 floors made of reinforced concrete, of great value.
Immediately after the incident, the province organized 3 working groups led by the Chairman and Vice Chairmen of the province to directly inspect and direct the repair. Although the province is planning to resettle in a safe location, all 12 households still expressed their desire to repair and live in the old location because it is convenient for living and doing business.
A survey of the scene shows that the area is still at risk of further landslides, so the locality has cordoned off dangerous areas, warned of landslides and temporarily suspended people from approaching high-risk locations. At the same time, all 12 households were urgently evacuated to a 2-storey house at the old headquarters nearby, where they were fully equipped with electricity, water, sanitation and security and order.
On November 25, the Provincial People's Committee issued a natural disaster emergency in the landslide area to proactively deploy handling measures. Specialized agencies are surveying geology and terrain, developing a landslide handling plan and establishing an emergency project according to regulations. However, the complex terrain, difficult and dangerous approaches made the survey and design progress slower than required. The repair of houses can only be done after completing the study of optimal and safe solutions to handle landslides in the stream.
To handle the situation in the long term, the province has temporarily provided 10 billion VND from the reserve source to serve the survey, design and investment in anti-landslide works, protect residents and the central road of Khe Sanh commune passing through this area. The Provincial People's Committee aims to complete the repair of houses for people before Tet and commits to continue supporting households to have stable and solid housing during the implementation of overcoming dangerous landslides.
Previously, on November 30 and December 3, the Prime Minister issued Official Dispatch 234 and Official Dispatch 1551, directing the Central provinces to urgently overcome the damage after natural disasters.
At the online meeting on the morning of December 9, the Prime Minister continued to request to speed up the "Quang Trung Campaign", speed up the reconstruction and repair of houses for families whose houses were damaged by recent natural disasters. Also at this meeting, the Prime Minister criticized Quang Tri province for not implementing repairs for 12 households whose houses were severely damaged by the impact of storms and asked the province to report.
