The Vietnam Road Administration has just responded to people about naming roads for commune and inter-commune roads in rural areas.

On the Ministry of Construction's Information Portal, citizens asked: According to current regulations, only urban roads can be named, some roads about 100m are also named, while commune and inter-commune roads that are very long, wide and beautiful and built according to the new rural planning are not named, causing difficulties for travelers, especially non-local visitors.

Citizens requested the Vietnam Road Administration to consider adding the naming of routes in communes and inter-communes to facilitate people's travel.

The Vietnam Road Administration responded to this question as follows:

According to the provisions of Point d, Clause 1, Article 8 of the 2024 Road Law:

"A commune road is a road connecting the administrative center of a commune with a village, hamlet, hamlet, village, hamlet, hamlet, hamlet, hamlet, hamlet (hereinafter referred to as a village) and a rural residential area or a road connecting to a neighboring commune; the road has an important position for the socio-economic development of the commune".

According to the provisions of Point c, Clause 9, Article 8 of Decree No. 165/2024/ND-CP dated December 26, 2024 of the Government (detailed regulations, instructions for implementing a number of articles of the Road Law and Article 77 of the Law on Road Traffic Order and Safety):

"District-level People's Committees shall name and number the commune road";

According to the provisions of Clause 2, Article 23 of Decree No. 140/2025/ND-CP dated June 12, 2025 of the Government regulating the determination of the authority of 02-level local authorities in the field of state management of the Ministry of Construction:

"The authority to name and issue road numbers and the responsibility to publish road names and numbers on mass media as prescribed in Point c, Clause 9, Article 8 of Decree No. 165/2024/ND-CP dated December 26, 2024 of the Government detailing and guiding the implementation of a number of articles of the Road Law and Article 77 of the Law on Road Traffic Order and Safety are implemented by the provincial People's Committee".

Thus, according to the provisions of the Road Law and the above Decrees, there are regulations on naming commune roads, the Vietnam Road Administration recommends that citizens contact local authorities for detailed information.
