Dak Lak - Authorities are ready to evacuate people in vulnerable areas when storm No. 13 Kalmaegi makes landfall, causing flooding.

On November 4, Mr. Nguyen Thien Van - Vice Chairman of Dak Lak Provincial People's Committee - said: "The Provincial People's Committee has met to disseminate the contents and plans for storm prevention to the People's Committees of communes and wards in the province. In particular, ensuring the safety of people's lives and property is a top priority".

Mr. Vo Ngoc Thach - Chairman of Song Cau Ward People's Committee - emphasized: "The Ward People's Committee has been proactive and implemented many response plans when storms and floods are complicated. The whole ward currently has more than 100 boats, ships, boats... anchored in a safe place, not going out to sea to fish during storms and rough seas".

According to Mr. Thach, 86 coastal households (directly affected by high tides) have been notified by authorities to evacuate to safe places when natural disasters occur.

About 350 households in low-lying areas and vulnerable areas will be evacuated by local authorities immediately to the nearest headquarters or agency when the storm makes landfall, causing heavy rain, flooding or isolation.

To effectively prevent natural disasters, the Ward People's Committee has established 3 working groups on duty at the grassroots level. These groups are responsible for supporting people to brace their houses, prepare food and medicine to promptly help when needed," Mr. Thach added.

In the face of complicated storms and floods, Mr. Ta Anh Tuan - Chairman of Dak Lak Provincial People's Committee directed hydropower reservoirs to strictly implement the operating procedures, ensuring safety of works and downstream areas.

Enterprises and units under the Department of Industry and Trade ensure electricity, gasoline, and essential goods to serve people in case of prolonged floods. At the same time, regulate and support necessities in a timely manner for areas at risk of isolation.

Dak Lak Provincial Police prepare forces and means to ensure security and order, support evacuation, rescue, and response to storm, flood, landslide, and flash flood situations when requested by the locality.

According to the forecast, storm Kalmaegi is likely to enter the East Sea around November 5 and become storm No. 13, with an intensity that can reach above level 12 when in the Truong Sa archipelago.

It is forecasted that around November 7, the storm is likely to directly affect the area from Da Nang to Khanh Hoa, causing heavy rain from the night of November 6 to 9.

Currently, the western area of Dak Lak province has 13 points at risk of landslides, easily causing isolation when storms occur. The authorities are closely monitoring the situation to promptly handle it, ensuring the safety of people when an incident occurs.

The Management Board of Investment and Construction Projects in the Eastern Region has also directed contractors to urgently deploy plans to ensure safety for people, equipment and works under construction. Especially in projects with sea embankments, river embankments and areas at risk of landslides
