On December 15, information from Khanh Hoa Road Management and Construction Joint Stock Company said that units are focusing on handling the remaining rocks and soil on Khanh Le Pass.
Many machines and vehicles are mobilized to work continuously to soon restore the road surface, while reinforcing locations at risk of further landslides.
If the weather is favorable, the repair of the main landslides will be completed in the next few days.
It is expected that on December 16 and 17, Khanh Hoa and Lam Dong provinces will coordinate to inspect the site to assess the safety level, before agreeing on the route clearance plan.
Previously, the Khanh Hoa Department of Construction issued a notice prohibiting all vehicles from circulating on National Highway 27C, the section passing through Khanh Le Pass, to serve the repair and overcoming of landslides after heavy rain.
On November 16 and 17, many serious landslides appeared in the Khanh Le Pass area, causing traffic on the route to be completely paralyzed.
Immediately after the incident, the Khanh Hoa Provincial Military Command mobilized forces of engineers to coordinate in blasting to destroy about 600 m3 of rock at Km44+400.
Along with that, road management units and related forces have handled thousands of cubic meters of soil and rock spilled onto the road, opened temporary roads to approach the scene and deploy technical measures.
Khanh Le Pass is about 33 km long, a vital traffic route on National Highway 27C, connecting the South Central Coast with the Central Highlands.
The long-term disruption of the road has seriously affected the travel, transportation of goods and the lives of people in Khanh Hoa and Lam Dong provinces.
From the reality of frequent landslides on National Highway 27C, Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee has sent a report to central ministries and branches, proposing to invest in the expressway project connecting Khanh Hoa with Lam Dong.
Khanh Hoa province believes that the formation of the expressway is necessary to ensure traffic safety, minimize risks during the flood season, and at the same time strengthen the connection for socio-economic development between the Central and Central Highlands coastal areas.
