The project to upgrade the road connecting National Highways 70 and 279 is being constructed slowly

National Highway 279 is the main traffic axis connecting Lao Cai and Ha Giang with Noi Bai - Lao Cai Expressway, and will be the access road to Sa Pa airport in the future.

However, the road section through Pho Rang town, Bao Yen district has long been degraded, landslides and many dangerous curves do not ensure safety for people when participating in traffic.

At the end of 2023, the project to upgrade the road connecting National Highway 70 with National Highway 279, Bao Yen district was implemented with a total investment of 25.3 billion VND. The investor is the Bao Yen District Construction Investment Project Management Board, the construction unit is Minh Duc General Construction Company Limited.

The project must be completed by April 2025, but up to now, construction is still sluggish, not reaching 50% of the progress.

In early May, according to the reporter of Lao Dong Newspaper, although the project only lasted about 1km, it was often congested due to no one dividing the two ends. Along the route, rocks, soil, and construction materials are dumped, creating traps for traffic participants, especially at night.

Although this is a unique route, the contractor's construction process lacks warning signs in dangerous areas, posing a potential risk to the safety of people and vehicles passing through.

Mr. Mai Van Nam in Pho Rang town said: "This road is under construction, dusty on sunny days, muddy on rainy days, making it very difficult for people to travel. Not to mention many construction sections are sluggish, without fences, making it easy for traffic accidents to occur.

In particular, through observation at the scene, the pre-cast culvert system that was cracked and broken was still put into construction; the water collection manholes showed signs of being constructed incorrectly, the concrete quality was not guaranteed, peeled, workers used cement to patch them.

Speaking to Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Le Quang Trung Hieu - Deputy Director of the Bao Yen District Construction Investment Project Management Board said: Due to problems with site clearance, up to now, the project has only completed half of the road and is carrying out procedures to extend the progress.

Regarding the lack of warning signs and barriers at many construction sites, which pose a potential risk to the safety of people and vehicles, Mr. Le Quang Trung Hieu said that he will request Minh Duc General Construction Company Limited to rectify and overcome the situation.
