On January 11, information from Sa Dec General Hospital, Dong Thap province said that the hospital is actively treating a male patient who was admitted with severe burns in many places and a crushed hand.
Previously, at around 8:25 p.m. on January 8, patient N.T.T (18 years old, residing in Vinh Thanh commune, Lap Vo district, Dong Thap province) was hospitalized with singed hair on his forehead and eyebrows, first-degree burns on his face, first-degree burns on both legs, and a crushed left hand.
After receiving the patient, the doctors performed emergency surgery on the hand and removed the crushed flesh. Currently, N.T.T's health is stable and he is being monitored and treated actively at the hospital.
This male student said he used a mini gas cylinder combined with alcohol to make an airplane. While using a drill to drill the gas cylinder, it exploded, causing injury to his body. “I saw my friend making a rocket with a gas cylinder so I wanted to do the same to fly it for fun. But when I drilled the gas cylinder, it suddenly burst into flames,” the patient shared.

Dr. Mai Van Thuan, Head of the Department of Neurosurgery, Orthopedics and Traumatology, Sa Dec General Hospital, said: This is not the first time the hospital has received treatment for injuries to patients like this. Many cases of teenagers, out of curiosity and desire to explore, have used dangerous materials such as firecrackers, flammable substances, and explosives to make toys. Most of these injuries leave serious consequences and sequelae, affecting the body later on.
“In the case of this patient, the immediate damage to the body such as scorched skin on the face, scorched hair, eyebrows, quite complicated damage to the palms of the hands, burns on both legs, more or less causing psychological damage to the victim, disrupting his studies,” Dr. Thuan warned.
