Maintaining security and order in Phu Quoc after abandoning district-level police

NGUYÊN ANH |

Due to development needs, problems such as site clearance and land disputes will arise in Phu Quoc, and hostile forces can take advantage of this to cause social instability.

Recently, Kien Giang Provincial Police organized an announcement of the decision to establish a Standing Working Group to ensure security and order (ANTT) in Phu Quoc City. The working group includes 97 officers, soldiers, leaders and commanders from professional units of Kien Giang Provincial Police.

Lieutenant Colonel Mai Phuong Nam - Head of the Department of Investigation Police on Economic Crimes, Corruption, Smuggling, and Environment of Kien Giang Provincial Police - was appointed as the Head of the Team. With a high determination, the Party Committee and the Board of Directors of Kien Giang Provincial Police have focused on leading and directing units and localities to synchronously and drastically deploy many measures to ensure security and order.

According to Kien Giang Provincial Police, in the coming time, the socio-economic situation in Phu Quoc will continue to develop strongly, with many domestic and foreign investors implementing new projects and types of services to meet development needs. In particular, in 2027, Phu Quoc will be the venue for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Conference, which will attract great attention and investment. However, also due to development needs, issues such as site clearance and land disputes will arise, creating opportunities for hostile forces to take advantage of to carry out plots to disrupt public order and disrupt social stability.

In addition, implementing the Ministry of Public Security's policy on arranging and perfecting the apparatus, not organizing district-level police, is one of the factors that makes criminals able to take advantage of to resume operations. To proactively ensure security and order and fight against crime while creating a favorable environment to serve economic and social development, Kien Giang Provincial Police have decided to establish a Standing Working Group to ensure security and order.

Colonel Nguyen Van Han - Director of Kien Giang Provincial Police - said: In the context of the rapid development of Phu Quoc City, maintaining security and order is very important. Not only maintaining stable political security and social order and safety, but also contributing to the development of the socio-economy, foreign affairs, especially tourism.

Proactively, avoid complicated incidents; strengthen coordination in exchanging information between the police force with departments, branches, unions; professional units with the police of communes and wards on the situation of security, order, subjects, gangs, criminal groups, and social evils.

"D quyetamentally handle cases of lack of responsibility or condoning and protection for criminals; pay attention to the work of encouraging, rewarding and implementing regimes and policies so that officers and soldiers are determined to attack and suppress crimes," emphasized Colonel Nguyen Van Han.

Lieutenant Colonel Truong Sa My - Deputy Head of the Criminal Police Department, Deputy Head of the Working Group - said: "The Working Group will proactively deploy plans to ensure social safety, not allowing criminals and evils to harm people's lives. The force will be ready to fight, protect the peace of the community and support sustainable development for the city".

In February 2025, Phu Quoc welcomed more than 801,000 visitors, including over 196,000 international visitors, with total tourism revenue of more than VND 4,600 billion. Currently, tourism service establishments are busy preparing plans to welcome guests for the upcoming holidays, especially the April 30 holiday.

According to the leader of Phu Quoc City, the first Phu Quoc Traditional fish sauce festival in 2025 will be held at the provincial level. The festival is expected to be held from April 28 to 30, 2025 at the Phu Quoc City Cultural and Sports Center.

Many special activities of the Festival are expected to attract a large number of visitors, the issue of ensuring security, order and safety for visitors is focused on by the locality to ensure the festival is successful.
