On December 1, at the foot of Deo Ngang (in Vinh Son village, Phu Trach commune, Quang Tri province), earthworms were lying everywhere on concrete paths and people's gardens and extended to the edge of National Highway 1.
Many worms have died and contracted under the sun, while others are still struggling.
As one of the first people to discover the incident, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thoai (residing in Vinh Son village) was still surprised. She said that when she and her husband went to the garden early in the morning, they saw this scene.
The worms crawled up a lot and then died. Some have just died, some have just dried up. The worms may have increased for several days, and will die by the time of sunshine.
The unusual thing is that the dead worms are only concentrated in open, airy areas such as in the middle of the path, concrete road surface, while in the areas along the banks and the moist soil on both sides of the road, the number is very small.
Mr. Tran Dinh Chien - Head of Vinh Son village said that the locality has never recorded a similar phenomenon.
This is the first time this has happened, never before.
The exact cause of the mass death of earthworms has not been determined. The local government said it will continue to monitor the situation.
