Based on reviewing potential accident points, Hanoi requests comprehensive inspection and repair of river overpasses, especially focusing on drainage, lighting and traffic organization before the 2026 rainy season.
Hanoi Department of Construction has just requested relevant units to urgently implement solutions to strengthen traffic safety assurance on large overpasses, including: Thang Long, Nhat Tan, Chuong Duong, Vinh Tuy, Thanh Tri and Dong Tru.
According to the Department of Construction, this direction was issued based on the results of the Hanoi City Police's review of points where accidents often occur and locations with potential traffic unsafety risks in 2026, and has also been agreed upon by inter-sectoral agencies.
The Department of Construction assigned the Traffic Infrastructure Maintenance Board to strengthen inspection and periodic maintenance of bridges; promptly detect and overcome structural damage during operation, and prevent unsafety due to infrastructure degradation.
In addition, units are required to promote cleaning of the signal system, organize traffic on the bridge; research and supplement reflective materials at railings and lane dividers to improve the identification ability for traffic participants, especially at night or in unfavorable weather conditions.
Notably, the Department of Construction requested to inspect and repair the bridge surface drainage system, to prevent water stagnation and flooding - factors that potentially pose a risk of traffic unsafety, especially during the 2026 rainy season.
For the City Technical Infrastructure Management Center, the Department requests to adjust the operation of the lighting system, ensuring 100% lighting capacity on large bridges to improve visibility and enhance safety for traffic.
Hanoi Department of Construction emphasized that the synchronous implementation of the above solutions is expected to contribute to reducing accidents, improving infrastructure exploitation efficiency, and ensuring safety for people when traveling through key bridges of the Capital.
