The Office of the Hai Phong City People's Committee issued a document conveying the direction of Vice Chairman of the Hai Phong City People's Committee Hoang Minh Cuong on checking and handling information from the press and social networks reflecting the leakage of chemicals from the VICO Laundry materials factory affecting people's health.
Vice Chairman of Hai Phong City People's Committee Hoang Minh Cuong assigned An Hai Ward People's Committee to preside over and coordinate with relevant agencies to urgently inspect and verify the case of people suffering from fainting, chest tightness, and difficulty breathing suspected of inhaling chemicals from VICO factory and strictly handle violations (if any) in accordance with regulations. The inspection results must be reported to the City People's Committee in a timely manner for direction.
Previously, on July 24, Lao Dong Newspaper published an article "Handling chemical leak incidents at Vico Hai Phong Factory".
Accordingly, Mr. Pham Huy Nam (in lane 27, road 208, An Hai ward, Hai Phong city) said that his son Pham Duc V had just been hospitalized for tests due to inhaling a leachate chemical from Vico Laundry Factory. Mr. Nam said that at around 1:00 p.m. on July 20, his wife and two children were at home when they smelled the strong smell of chemicals flying from the Vico Laundry Factory. Immediately afterwards, the whole family had to close the door and use measures to ensure safety. However, his wife and two children still had chest tightness and difficulty breathing due to inhaling chemicals, in which Pham Duc V fainted and had to be taken to the hospital for examination and treatment.
According to the diagnostic results from Hai Phong International General Hospital, Pham Duc V was poisoned by sodium nitrites. Trees and flowers in Mr. Nam's garden and surrounding houses were also burned.
Mr. Nguyen Minh Hanh - Technical Director of Vico Laundry Factory - said that day, to prevent storm No. 3, the factory had cleaned up materials to prevent the storm. During the cleaning process, workers carefully stabbed and punched a gate containing chemicals ( thick salt) that affected some surrounding households.
