Prolonged heavy rain in recent days has complicated the landslides along the left dike of Thao River through Zone 7, the old Thach Son commune (now Lam Thao commune), causing damage to cultivated land, crops and posing a potential risk to the safety of the dike system.
Reporter's record on July 24 shows that after heavy rains in the upper reaches of the Thao River, rising water levels, strong currents, combined with the phenomenon of silting on the right bank pushed the mainstream closer to the left bank, causing strong erosion.
At the section from Km72+200 to Km73+200 on the left Thao dike, landslides occurred seriously. Many locations were eroded from 10 to 15m deep, extending about 1,000m.
In particular, from Km72+900 to Km73+100, the landslide point is only 8 - 10m from the embankment top, directly threatening the safety of the dike project as well as neighboring households.

The cause was determined to be due to heavy rain in the upper reaches of the Thao River causing the water level to rise, the flow was strong, while the right bank was silted up, causing the mainstream to be pushed close to the left bank and causing strong erosion.
Faced with the above situation, Lam Thao Commune People's Committee has urgently deployed response solutions. The local government requested the Economic Department - the standing agency of the Commune Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention, Control and Search and Rescue to coordinate with relevant forces to organize the placement of warning signs and containment of dangerous areas.
At the same time, propagate to people not to cultivate, remove firewood, and graze cattle in areas at risk of subsidence and landslides. The commune police force is mobilized to closely monitor the situation, ensure security and order, and prepare plans to handle possible unexpected situations.
A representative of Lam Thao Commune People's Committee said that the government is reporting to superiors to propose an emergency reinforcement plan to ensure the safety of the dyke system before the rainy and stormy season.
