Not only a home, but also a place to avoid floods
The morning of March 11 was a happy day for Mr. Nguyen Van Vy (residing in Dien Khanh village, Hai Duong commune, Hai Lang district, Quang Tri province), when Hai Lang district gave him the key to the newly built great solidarity house.
Mr. Vy is now 42 years old, but is still single. Due to his disabled leg for a long time, he lived with his sister so he did not dare to confess to anyone.
Since birth, Mr. Vy's leg has been disabled and his health is also weak. He could not do heavy work, and at times went to the South to work as a garment worker, but after a few years, he returned to his hometown because his work was ineffective.
Difficult and in poor health, but he is very hard-working, so when he returns to his hometown, he helps his relatives do things that are within his ability. Many times, he also dreamed of a warm house, but Mr. Vy knew it was just a dream.

In November 2024, he was happy when the local government announced that it would support the construction of the house. The news also spread to the villagers, some with money promised to lend, others without money promised to support working days.
With support of 110 million VND, Mr. Vy borrowed an additional 170 million VND to build a house on the land his parents left right next to his sister's house. After 4 months, the house was completed and fully equipped. In particular, the house also has a high attic, to prevent the flood from moving up there.
Mr. Nguyen Khanh Vu - Secretary of Hai Lang District Party Committee said that Mr. Vy's house is one of 37 solidarity houses that the district has just completed and handed over to the people.
Previously, at the end of 2024, Hai Lang district conducted a review and determined that there were 37 households in difficult circumstances, who needed to build new houses and were eligible for support. The district has applied programs, support from sponsors, contributions from cadres, workers and children inside and outside Hai Lang district to deploy the construction of 37 houses. The goal of building 37 houses is to be completed by the end of 2025, but the locality has made many efforts, so currently 37 houses have been completed and handed over to the people for use.
"In the coming time, we will continue to review the gratitude houses that were built before, if they are degraded, we will support them for repairs. At the same time, support cases that need to build new houses but are not qualified to continue supporting" - Mr. Nguyen Khanh Vu said.
