Nghe An - After consecutive storms and floods, the Provincial People's Committee directed the urgent implementation of resettlement projects for hundreds of households in the mountainous areas of the West.

On October 10, information from Nghe An Provincial People's Committee said that the province has directed functional agencies and People's Committees of mountainous communes in the West to urgently survey and select locations to build resettlement areas for people who have lost their homes or have lost unsafe housing due to natural disasters. This is an urgent task to help people soon stabilize their lives after the recent storms and floods.

According to statistics, hundreds of households in the border communes of the old Ky Son district such as Muong tip, My Ly, Huoi Tu and Na Ngoi have been severely affected by consecutive floods. Of which, My Ly commune suffered particularly serious damage with 243 houses swept away, 84 houses were deeply flooded and 86 houses were in landslide risk areas that had to be urgently evacuated.

The People's Committee of My Ly commune has proposed to build 4 concentrated resettlement areas in Xang Tren, Xieng Tam, Yen Hoa and Cha Nga villages, with a total scale of 240 households, with a total cost of about 82 billion VND. Resettlement areas are fully planned with essential infrastructure such as transportation, electricity, centralized clean water, community houses and kindergartens, to ensure long-term and safe living conditions for people.

In Muong Tip commune, storm No. 10 caused severe flash floods and landslides, causing many roads, anti-landslide embankments and schools to be severely damaged. The locality has proposed that the province invest in 2 new resettlement areas for 45 households (218 people) in Xop Tap, Xop Phong and Ta Do villages, with a total investment of more than 39 billion VND. These areas are located in a location with stable terrain along Provincial Road 543D, convenient for transportation, ensuring water and electricity for daily life.

In Huoi Tu commune, the landslide on National Highway 16 through Huoi Kha village directly threatened many households, while in the Central village, there were 12 households located near the foot of the mountain facing a high risk of insecurity. Local authorities are coordinating with relevant sectors to develop plans for interspersed relocation or concentrated resettlement, ensuring both safety and stable livelihoods for people.

In Na Ngoi commune, the province is also surveying the construction location of an inter-level boarding school under the investment program of 21 boarding schools in Nghe An border communes, according to Notice 81-TB/TW of the Politburo - linking the reconstruction of civil infrastructure with the development of border education.

In early October 2025, Chairman of Nghe An Provincial People's Committee Le Hong Vinh directly inspected localities that suffered heavy damage, requesting departments, branches and local authorities to urgently complete documents, appraise and implement resettlement projects, ensuring progress and sustainability.

The construction of resettlement areas is not only to overcome the immediate consequences of natural disasters but also towards the long-term goal of Helping people settle down, stabilize their livelihoods and stay with the border area, Mr. Le Hong Vinh emphasized.
