The project to renovate and beautify Coc Leu bridge and the area on both sides of the road at the head of Coc Leu bridge was approved by the People's Committee of Lao Cai ward (Lao Cai province) under Decision No. 298/QD-UBND dated July 7, 2025.
This project belongs to Group C, with a total investment of 17 billion VND; the Economic, Infrastructure and Urban Affairs Department of Lao Cai Ward is the unit assigned by the People's Committee of this ward as the Project Investor; the Lao Cai - Coc San Construction Investment Project Management Board is the unit representing the investor to manage the project.
According to the investigation of Lao Dong Newspaper reporters at the National Bidding Network System, Package No. 7: Construction (including traffic safety items) of the project has recently had contractor selection results.
Package No. 7 worth more than VND 15.3 billion from the regular budget of the old Lao Cai city, won the bid with a price of more than VND 15.2 billion, the Long Phu - Huy Hung Joint Venture includes: Long Phu Investment and Service Joint Stock Company, Huy Hung One Member Co., Ltd.
According to the project documents, Package No. 7 will renovate and beautify Coc Leu Bridge and the area on both sides of the road at the head of Coc Leu Bridge.
The package will have the following tasks: Dismantling and reclaiming 16 existing lighting poles; constructing lighting systems and renovating (lighting, supply, welcome gates).
Along with that, the winning bidder will paint the bridge; demolish the old sidewalk, newly paved with stone (about 522 m2) on Nguyen Hue Street; demolish the iron railing, replace the stone railing with a length of about 497 m (the starting point connects the existing stone railing, the end point of Coc Leu Bridge) on An Duong Vuong Street.
In addition, to ensure traffic safety during the construction process, the winning bidder will install signs, vehicle barriers, and traffic guidance workers according to regulations.
The project implementation progress is 70 days from the date of signing the contract.
Coc Leu Bridge across the Red River is located in the center of the old Lao Cai city, this bridge was first built by the French colonialists in 1907. In 2009, Coc Leu Bridge was rebuilt.
Accordingly, to locate the new bridge, the construction unit has moved the old bridge surface downstream to use as a temporary bridge. The new Coc Leu Bridge has a permanent design made of prestressed reinforced concrete, including 2 abutments, 4 pillars, 250 m long, 16 m wide, meeting four lanes for traffic.
This project has a total investment of over 110 billion VND, and was technically opened to traffic on January 12, 2012.
