Lao Cai - The province stipulates that cadres and civil servants who want to rent official residences must ensure a minimum distance to avoid misplacing subjects and improve management efficiency.

On May 28, information from the People's Committee of Lao Cai province, the unit has just issued new regulations on the distance from residence to workplace for cases of being able to rent official housing, in order to tighten management and ensure proper arrangement of subjects according to the provisions of the 2023 Housing Law.

According to the decision, cadres, civil servants, public employees and subjects eligible to rent official residences when coming to work in remote, isolated, particularly difficult areas, ethnic minority and mountainous areas or land border communes and wards must have a distance from their residence to their workplace of 10 km or more to be considered for arranging official residences.

For the remaining areas in the province, the minimum distance is regulated to be 30 km or more.

The distance is determined according to the shortest road connecting the place of permanent residence and the place of work at the time of reviewing the lease application.

The regulation also clearly states that individuals who already own houses with an average floor area of over 20 m2/person and the distance from the house to the workplace is lower than the prescribed level will not be eligible to rent official residences.
