On July 10, the People's Committee of Bai Chay ward coordinated to organize a launching ceremony for a peak period of collecting DNA biological samples of relatives of unidentified martyrs in Bai Chay and Tuan Chau wards.
The activity is implemented under the direction of the Quang Ninh Provincial People's Committee and the Ministry of Public Security, under the "Operation 500 days and nights to promote the search, repatriation and identification of martyrs' remains".
Bai Chay Ward currently manages records of 129 martyrs. Among them, 81 martyrs have identified burial places; 48 martyrs whose graves have not been found or whose remains have been collected but their identities have not been identified.
Through review, the locality identified 32 martyrs and relatives who are subject to DNA biological sample collection, with a total of 55 people.
Immediately after the launching ceremony, the collection of samples was deployed according to the process.
Specialized forces of the Ministry of Public Security, Quang Ninh Provincial Police, Bai Chay Ward Police and coordinating units have guided relatives of martyrs to declare information, compare records, take biological samples and update data.
Personal information and biological samples are managed and secured during the process of receiving, storing and analyzing.
On the morning of July 10, the forces completed the collection of DNA biological samples from 53 people. The remaining two cases could not reach the sampling point and were arranged to collect samples in Hoanh Bo ward on July 11.
In the afternoon of the same day, the activity of collecting DNA biological samples continued to be implemented for relatives of martyrs in Tuan Chau ward.
For elderly relatives with weak health, who cannot go to the centralized sampling point or have difficulty traveling, working groups organize mobile sampling at their place of residence.
The collected biological samples will be analyzed and stored in the DNA data bank and compared with the data of unidentified martyrs' remains.
The construction of DNA data of martyr's relatives aims to support the process of identifying remains, contributing to meeting the desire to find relatives of martyrs' families after many years of waiting.
