On August 19, according to reporters of Lao Dong Newspaper, there was prolonged heavy rain in Ha Tinh. The rain caused many areas of ripe rice to be unable to be harvested, and in some places there was also a situation of rice being broken and fallen locally.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Lien (resident of Boc Nguyen village, Cam Due commune) said that this summer-autumn crop, her family cultivated 7 sao of rice. Up to now, the entire area has ripened but cannot be harvested due to heavy rain.
I am worried that prolonged rain will cause flooding, causing rice to sprout, causing damage to the area that has ripened but has not yet been harvested," Ms. Lien shared.
According to Ms. Lien, the yield of summer-autumn rice this year is only at an average level because the time of rice flowering encounters unfavorable weather, heavy rain causes rice grains to be black and empty.
In Dong Tien commune, Mr. Tran Van Khoa, 56 years old, said that his family cultivates 5 sao of summer-autumn rice. Up to now, his family has only harvested 1 sao, and 4 sao have not yet been harvested when they encountered heavy rain.
Mr. Khoa is worried that if the rain lasts, the remaining rice area may be flooded and damaged.
Mr. Phan Van Huan - Head of the Crop Production Department, Ha Tinh Sub-Department of Crop Production and Livestock Production said that this summer-autumn crop, the whole province planted nearly 44,000 hectares of rice. Up to this point, only about 3,000 hectares have been harvested.

According to Mr. Huan, in addition to a part of the rice area that has ripened but has not been harvested, most of the rice area is currently in a solid green stage. If prolonged heavy rain causes flooding in low-lying areas, rice yield will be affected.
In recent days, heavy rain accompanied by strong winds has also caused some rice areas to fall. However, what is more worrying is that if heavy rain lasts, rice may be flooded, germinate, causing damage to people.
According to Mr. Huan, summer-autumn rice yield this year is generally higher than the summer-autumn crop of 2025 but lower than the summer-autumn crop of 2024. It is expected that in about 10 days, Ha Tinh will enter the peak harvest season for summer-autumn rice.
According to forecasts, from August 19 to 21, in Ha Tinh, rain will continue to occur with common rainfall of 100-150 mm, in some places over 150 mm. Total rainfall for the whole period is commonly 150-250 mm, in some places over 300 mm.
Heavy rain is likely to cause flooding in low-lying areas and urban areas; floods on rivers, flash floods and landslides in steep slopes.
Faced with the above situation, the Chairman of Ha Tinh Provincial People's Committee issued an official dispatch requesting to focus on responding to heavy rain. In which, for the area of ripe summer-autumn rice, vegetables, aquaculture and seafood that are ready for harvest, localities must mobilize forces to support people in harvesting to limit damage.
