Heavy rain flooded into rooms, students of many schools in Ha Tinh had to stay home from school

TRẦN TUẤN |

Due to heavy rain, schools were deeply flooded, on the morning of October 31, many schools in Ha Tinh had to let students stay home to ensure safety.

On the morning of October 31, in Ha Tinh, it was raining, in some localities, flooding occurred, water entered people's houses and schools, affecting people's daily activities and students' studies.

Mr. Tran Xuan Linh - Vice Chairman of Cam Lac Commune People's Committee - said that prolonged heavy rain along with water flowing freely through Thuong Tuy Lake poured downstream, increasing the level of flooding downstream in Cam Lac Commune.

Currently, in An Son village and Tho Son village, many households have had their houses flooded, and some roads are partially flooded, causing students to not be able to go to school.

According to Mr. Linh, Ha Huy Tap High School (located in the old Cam Son commune) alone had water inundated the school, so on the morning of October 31, all students were off school.

Mr. Nguyen Huy Khang - Secretary of the Ha Huy Tap High School Youth Union - said that due to heavy rain, from the afternoon of October 30, water began to flood the schoolyard. Therefore, the school has announced that all students (1,328 students) will be off school on October 31 to ensure safety.

According to Mr. Khang, by the morning of October 31, water had flooded more than 20 classrooms on the first floor with a flooding level of about 30cm.

Ha Huy Tap High School is located in a low-lying area, so it is affected every year, suffering quite a lot of damage due to floods. Although the school has proactively responded and raised assets, it is inevitable that damage will occur every year. These are difficulties that partly affect the teaching and learning of teachers and students, Mr. Khang shared.

According to Mr. Khang, before that, storm No. 10 also caused damage to some of the school's assets. After the repair is completed, we are now worried about how to cope with floods, there is a risk that students will have to stay home from school in the following days while waiting for the water to recede, and have to focus on clearing mud and soil.

Specific data will be compiled by the Department and reported later.
