The rainy and storm season is approaching, and it is also the time when the worry of riverbank erosion is waiting, weighing heavily on the lives of dozens of households living along the Tra Khuc River, passing through Son Linh commune. Every time it rains heavily and the river water rises, people are worried when their houses and production land are located in areas at risk of erosion.
In Dong A village, Son Linh commune, the peaceful rhythm of life of 15 households living close to the riverbank seems to slow down every time the weather changes season. These are locations that have experienced landslides before and are at risk of continuing to be deeply eroded when the flood season comes.
Located right in the key landslide area, Ms. Dinh Thi Phun's family these days always lives in anxiety and worry as the floor has begun to show cracks and subsidence.
When the flood season comes, we have to run from floods 5-6 times. Run up to their house on the hill, every year it's like that, the water rises to the house, I'm afraid it will collapse," Ms. Dinh Thi Phun shared.
Not only facing natural flows, people are also worried that when hydropower reservoirs go into operation, water regulation may cause river water levels to change rapidly during rainy and flood times, while many residential areas are still located close to riverbanks and areas at high risk of landslides.
Not only Dong A village, landslide-prone locations also stretch along some traffic routes and riverside civil works areas. Statistics show that Son Linh commune currently has 42 households with 149 people located in areas directly affected by landslides.
These are all areas that are frequently damaged by floods; the erosion of the flow is increasingly making people's lives more precarious.
Water floods from the road to the walls of houses. Our biggest wish is for the State to invest in building embankments to prevent landslides, because this situation lasts for years, making us very worried," Ms. Nguyen Thi Trinh (Dong A village) worried.
Understanding the concerns of the people, the local government affirmed that the issue of protecting the safety of life and property from natural disasters is an urgent task, requiring large investment resources.
The petition of the people of Son Linh commune is to hope that the local government and levels and sectors will pay attention to and invest in building a system of dykes to prevent landslides on both sides of the river, especially the Tam Linh bridge area, affecting villages along DH72 road. In addition, people also earnestly hope to soon have resettlement areas to stabilize their lives for a long time," said Ms. Sang Thi Minh Ngoc, Chairwoman of Son Linh Commune People's Committee.
Son Linh commune currently has 683 households with 2,586 people located in areas at risk of flooding. Before the rainy and storm season, early deployment of solutions to protect solid riverbanks, minimizing impacts on houses, production land and technical infrastructure is an urgent requirement at this time. Thereby, helping people feel secure in clinging to the land, clinging to the village, no longer having to face the anxiety every time the flood season comes.
