At the beginning of June 2026, Lao Dong Newspaper reporters were present in Binh Thanh commune, Phu Tho province - a locality located in the Hoa Binh Hydropower reservoir area. Real-world records show that the reservoir water level has decreased significantly compared to the beginning of the year.
The receding water revealed many stone cliffs, embankments and islets in the middle of the lake. In the Thung Nai port area, fishing, aquaculture and tourist transportation activities are still taking place normally.

Ms. Vu Thi Oanh (owner of a tourist boat operating on Hoa Binh Lake) informed that the current water level is lower than before, and many areas have appeared cliffs and mounds. However, this situation occurs almost every year in the dry season, so it does not significantly affect fish farming or tourism activities.
According to Ms. Oanh, every day boats still welcome many tourists to visit, pilgrimage and explore tourist and spiritual attractions on the lake, contributing to creating jobs and stable income for local people.

Mr. Bui Van Khai (resident of Binh Thanh commune) said that the decrease in the lake water level is a normal development in the dry season due to the low water inflow to the lake, while the hydropower plant still maintains power generation. The water up and down process is slow, so it has not affected fishing and aquaculture activities.
Mr. Le Xuan Ha - Vice Chairman of Binh Thanh Commune People's Committee said that the lake water level has decreased gradually for a long time, so it has not caused a major impact on the lives and production of people in the lake area.
According to Mr. Ha, the time when the water recedes also creates a characteristic landscape with cliffs and mudflats floating in the middle of the lake. Along with spiritual tourist attractions such as Chua Thac Bo Temple, this area continues to attract a large number of tourists to visit and worship.

Talking to Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Pham Van Vuong - Director of Hoa Binh Hydropower Company - said that from the end of May, the plant has increased its power generation capacity to meet the increasing load demand during the heat wave.
The unit maintains a 24/24 hour operation duty regime, closely monitors the equipment status and promptly handles incidents to ensure that the units operate safely, stably and continuously.

According to data from Vietnam Electricity Group, at 4:00 PM on June 2, the upstream water level of Hoa Binh Lake was 101.12m, 15.88m lower than the normal water level. The water flow to the lake reached 3,001m3/s, while the total discharge through the plant was 2,994m3/s.
Previously, on January 1, 2026, the water level of Hoa Binh Lake was at 116.56m, only 0.44m lower than the normal water level of 117m. Thus, after more than 5 months, the lake water level has decreased by about 15.44m.
