The bottom of the green pond is dry and littered with garbage.
According to the reporter's records on October 5, at the green pond area in residential group 17 (Trung Van, Nam Tu Liem, Hanoi), the bottom of the pond has dried up, leaving only mud and household waste lying around.
Ms. Trinh Thi Det, who has lived here for more than 70 years, said that the green pond being filled with trash has been going on for many years but has not been treated, greatly affecting people's lives.
“Every time it is hot or rainy, the stench of decomposing garbage is very strong. I have reported to the neighborhood association and the ward People’s Committee many times about this garbage situation, but they only come to propagate and remind me, they have not completely handled it,” Ms. Det shook her head in dismay.
Frustrated by the pollution, Mr. Phung Van T (Nam Tu Liem, Hanoi) said that he often encourages households living near the green pond area to stop dumping waste into the pond, but at night, everyone takes turns dumping it.
“Household waste needs to be disposed of in the right place, people cannot just dump it into the pond like that. I hope the local government will soon come up with strong measures to prevent pollution caused by waste,” Mr. T added.
It is expected that by 2025, the green pond will be renovated.
Talking to Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Dang Quoc Hung - Vice Chairman of Trung Van Ward People's Committee said that the investment project to renovate and repair the green pond in 2012 has been embanked and built a spacious, clean and beautiful campus.
According to Mr. Hung, after a period of time, the water seeps in and the bottom of the pond cannot hold water, leading to people carelessly littering, polluting the environment.
Cleaning and restoring the landscape of the green pond is not only the responsibility of the government but also an important task to improve the quality of living environment for people in the area.
According to Mr. Hung, the pond is about 7m deep, so excavators and cranes cannot access and handle it immediately. There needs to be large-scale projects and implementation plans to handle it thoroughly.
"Trung Van Ward has submitted a report to the authorities at all levels and received approval since 2023. It is expected that by 2025, the investment in construction, renovation and repair of the green pond will begin," Mr. Hung added.
