Many garbage flows into the sea after floods, making it difficult for fishermen to catch seafood

Ha Tinh - Due to heavy rain and floods, garbage, firewood, and wood from upstream have been flowing into the Lam River, affecting fishermen's fishing activities.

In recent days, garbage, firewood, and wood have been washed away by floodwaters to Ha Tinh beach, causing local authorities to clean up to ensure environmental sanitation.

According to many fishermen, although most of the garbage has drifted ashore at this point, there is still floating garbage at sea.

On July 31, fisherman Nguyen Van Thuong (born in 1973, residing in Quynh Mai ward, Nghe An province) was anchoring a fishing boat at Cua Sot port anchorage area (Loc Ha commune, Ha Tinh province) - said that after the flood from the impact of storm No. 3, on the first day of going to sea, the sea was full of garbage, firewood and large wood, making him unable to turn the boat to shore.

In the following days, he continued to launch the garbage, but the fishing efficiency was still affected, so his income decreased significantly.

"Some ships are tightly wrapped in duck feet and cannot be controlled, so we have to ask another ship to pull them back to shore," said Mr. Thuong.

Also anchored at Cua Tot port, fisherman Nguyen Xuan Cuong (50 years old, residing in Loc Ha commune, Ha Tinh province) complained that after a few days of flooding, there was too much garbage at sea, forming large patches stretching for many nautical miles, affecting the fishermen's fishing efficiency.

"I am affected when playing fishing, but it is better, because many other people who play fishing and go taking pictures are affected a lot. Because we are afraid of getting stuck with garbage when we plot, taking photos will also hit garbage, Mr. Cuong shared.

Not only at sea, the movement of garbage, wood, and wood washed away by floodwaters to the anchorage area of boats and Xuan Hoi fishing port (Ha Tinh province) also makes it difficult for many fishermen to have limited anchorage and difficulty letting boats and ships go to sea and enter the port.

A representative of Xuan Hoi Fishing Port said that the amount of garbage dumped here was too large, so it was difficult to clean up because there were not enough means and human resources.

Therefore, it is necessary to have the cooperation of all levels, sectors and local authorities, and the people participate in cleaning up trash.

On the afternoon of July 31, Mr. Tran Quynh Thao - Chairman of the People's Committee of Dan Hai commune - said that the commune government was aware of the impact of floods and waste, mainly branches and wood from upstream flowing into the anchorage area and Xuan Hoi fishing port.

According to Mr. Thao, in the coming time, the locality will mobilize forces to clean up garbage to ensure environmental sanitation and facilitate the entry and exit of boats at the anchorage area and Xuan Hoi fishing port.
