Bridge water rises, nearly 500 households in mountainous areas of Nghe An are isolated

QUANG ĐẠI |

Nghe An - Heavy rain on the night of September 23 and early morning of September 24 caused water levels to rise at the Xieng Thu stream overflow bridge (Chieu Luu commune), isolating nearly 500 households in 6 villages.

On September 24, Mr. Nguyen Xuan Truong - Secretary of the Party Committee of Chieu Luu Commune, Nghe An said that the 29-km long main road to the old Bao Thang area (where there are 6 villages, nearly 500 households living) has been repeatedly eroded due to the impact of storms in late July and early August. There are 4 spillways on the route, and every time there is heavy rain, the water rises, making it impossible for people and vehicles to pass.

On the same morning, local authorities have posted warning signs, prohibiting people and vehicles from passing through the Xieng Thu stream overflow bridge to ensure safety.

This is considered a dangerous "black spot" when in the recent storm No. 3, one person died due to being swept away by flood, in 2024, there were also 2 deaths here.

According to the Secretary of the Party Committee of Chieu Luu commune, the commune has proposed that the People's Committee of Nghe An province soon arrange capital to build a hard bridge to replace 4 spillways. "The estimated cost is about 74 billion VND.

With the conditions of a poor commune, we hope that the province and the Central Government will pay attention and support to ensure the safety of life and stabilize people's lives," said Mr. Truong.
