" There are many chickens on the national highway
According to the reporter's records, the road surface of many sections of National Highway 1 through Xuan Dai Ward (Song Cau Town) is peeling, with many potholes and gravel scattered everywhere, seriously affecting traffic.
Not only does this pose a potential risk of traffic accidents, it also disrupts the lives of people along the national highway, making making a living difficult. It is worth mentioning that for many days, the PV has recorded that the locations of severely damaged road surfaces have not been repaired or patched, whether it is sunny or rainy.
The whole family depends on the breakfast restaurant to make a living, but for the past few months, the restaurant of Ms. Nguyen Thi Le (50 years old, living in Xuan Dai ward) has always been closed due to inconveniences from the surrounding environment. "The house is on the road but always has to be closed. When it is sunny, dust flies everywhere, when it rains, the water stagnates and becomes mud, the roads are muddy," Ms. Le lamented. Not only that, the situation of rocks and stones scattered, rainwater hitting the house, and noise affecting every time a large vehicle passes, makes Mrs. Le's family tired.
Ms. Le Thi Kieu Tho (33 years old, residing in Xuan Dai ward) said that this situation has been going on for many years but has not been thoroughly handled. "I have been here for 4 years now, and every year the road is severely damaged. Motorbikes passing here trip over potholes and fall continuously, which is very dangerous. Last Tet, there was a car accident, luckily some people only suffered scratches, but the car was severely damaged. The patching of the road is very temporary, and every time it rains, it causes ulcers," said Ms. Tho.
Taking on the responsibility of repairing National Highway 1 through Xuan Dai Ward, a worker at Phu Yen Road Management and Repair Joint Stock Company also wondered when the damage to the road surface has only been temporarily repaired over the past time. "Other damaged sections are scraped and repaved with asphalt, but it is unclear why this section is only temporarily patched with loose materials, not ensuring quality. After a short time of being roasted, it will be damaged like before," said this worker.

The road is damaged by the weather?
Regarding the work of repairing and repairing damage on National Highway 1, Mr. Mai Van Hao - Director of Phu Yen Road Management and Repair Joint Stock Company - complained about difficulties and said that unfavorable weather was the main reason why the repair could not be thoroughly implemented. "When it is sunny, we will carry out thorough repairs according to the direction of the Vietnam Road Administration. If the weather is favorable, it is expected that the repair will be completed in the next 10 days," said Mr. Hao.
Meanwhile, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Binh - Director of Road Management Area III - informed that prolonged rain from October 2024 to now is the main cause of severe damage to many sections on National Highway 1 through Phu Yen. "During the rainy season, the road is damaged a lot. Currently, we can only temporarily repair it, waiting until the weather is favorable to scrap and re-pave it with hot asphalt concrete. The severely damaged sections have been included in the repair project in 2025, and construction is expected to begin in May," said Mr. Binh.
However, Mr. Binh also admitted that the funding source for road repair is still seriously lacking, only meeting about 40% of actual needs. This means that many damaged sections of the road are only temporarily repaired, waiting for additional funding in the coming time.
Waiting for the road to be repaired
While waiting for the repair project in May, people along National Highway 1 through Phu Yen still have to continue to endure the damage, dusty roads, and flooding. For businesses like Ms. Le, every day that passes is a worrying day when her livelihood is severely affected. The question is: When will this situation be completely resolved? And when there is funding, will damaged road sections be repaired methodically and long-term, or are they still just temporary solutions as before?
