The Hanoi - Thai Nguyen Expressway is over 64km long and has been officially opened to traffic since January 2014. After more than 10 years of exploitation, many locations have degraded, affecting the circulation of vehicles.
Regularly traveling through the route, Mr. Ho Huu Hanh (Thai Nguyen) said: "The Hanoi - Thai Nguyen expressway has recently deteriorated a lot. The road surface is bumpy, with potholes appearing, causing difficulties for vehicles participating in traffic.
In fact, there have been accidents due to bad road surface. Previously, the repair of the highway was only done in a sticky rice-bean style. Drivers really hope the road will be upgraded, ensuring safety for vehicles".
Faced with the deterioration of the road, the Road Management Area I has recently approved a project to repair the Hanoi - Thai Nguyen expressway surface. The total investment of the project is 45 billion VND. Of which, the construction cost accounts for nearly 35 billion VND.
The repair scope extends over many sections from Km3+00 to Km66+530 on the right and Km13+00 to Km69+158 on the left.
According to PV in the last days of November 2025, workers and machinery are being mobilized to implement the project. The subsidence and peeling locations of the road have been scraped and re-paved with asphalt concrete. The construction areas are fenced off to ensure safety for vehicles traveling on the expressway.
According to Mr. Do Van Giap - Commander, 703 Investment and Construction Joint Stock Company, during the construction process, to limit the impact on vehicles, many items were arranged by the unit to be constructed at night. At the same time, coordinate with the authorities to organize traffic flow, place signs and safety barriers.
To date, the package has completed over 70% of the volume. Many sections on the repaired rear section have achieved good quality, the flatness and clearance have been significantly improved. The contractor is speeding up the progress, striving to complete the project before December 15.
After the project is completed, the Hanoi - Thai Nguyen expressway will be improved in quality, meeting transportation needs, reducing the risk of unsafety. Thereby, increasing the connectivity between Hanoi and the midland and mountainous areas of the North, creating momentum for socio-economic development of the whole region.
