The project connecting the northern mountainous provinces with the Noi Bai - Lao Cai Expressway is funded by the Asian Development Bank and the Australian Government.
The project consists of 2 connecting routes, of which route 1 is 147 km long, route 2 is about 53 km long. The total investment capital of the two routes is more than 6,000 billion VND.
In the old Van Ban district, the route runs through here with a length of about 60 km, mainly on National Highway 279.
The project started in September 2022, after many adjustments, the contractor and investor strive to complete by the end of 2025.

In mid-August, according to the reporter of Lao Dong Newspaper in the old Van Ban district (Lao Cai province), the current construction is mainly taking place in the XL01 and XL03 packages.
As for the XL02 package through the center of Van Ban commune, the asphalt paving has basically been completed, and people can now travel here conveniently.
observing the reality of the XL01 package, currently human resources and machinery are being mobilized in large numbers by contractors to serve the construction process.
It is known that some weak contractors who do not ensure progress have been transferred the workload to stronger units to ensure progress.

In the XL03 package, it is noted that machinery and workers are being mobilized to increase the completion progress of the project.
These days, when the weather is dry, the unit often takes advantage of overtime until night to compensate for the days of prolonged rain and wind that cannot be constructed.
Sharing with PV, Mr. To Viet Thuong - Commander of the XL01 package (Connecting Dat Phuong Group Joint Stock Company, Phuong Thanh Traffic Construction Investment Joint Stock Company and 168/ Construction Group Joint Stock Company) - said: "Our package runs through the protective forest, so we have to wait for the mechanism to resolve and change the forest use purpose from the Government, so it also takes time to wait for the site.
Currently, about 99% of the site has been handed over, so contractors are speeding up construction, striving to finish before December 31, 2025".

Mr. Bui Quang Hien - Commander of the XL03 package (Connecting 703 Construction Investment Joint Stock Company and Manh Cuong Company Limited) - also said that currently, contractors at the construction site are striving to complete the entire route before December 31, 2025. Along with that, it is necessary to ensure traffic safety for people and vehicles to move most conveniently.
According to Project Management Board 2 (Ministry of Construction), the progress of packages on the route is currently about 70% of the volume. The investor is urging contractors to take advantage of dry weather, along with having a site for quick construction and early handover of the route.

Talking to Lao Dong, Mr. Le Van Quan - an officer of Project Management Board 2 (Ministry of Construction) - said: "To overcome difficulties in weather and site, we are coordinating with contractors to ensure safety for people and vehicles in circulation.
At the same time, we must speed up the progress further, take advantage of overtime work all night to make up for the progress for the rainy months, as well as the interruption period because there is no site clearance".
Mr. Quan also informed that although the packages have been extended to March 2026, the unit strives to complete them before the deadline of December 31, 2025.
