Recently, each prolonged heavy rain has caused many streets in the center of Thai Nguyen City (old) to be submerged in water, paralyzing traffic, affecting people's lives.
Faced with the above situation, the People's Committee of Thai Nguyen province has assigned relevant departments and branches to study and prepare reports to propose an investment policy for a flood prevention project for the central area.
The project is expected to have a total investment of about 588 billion VND, focusing on handling areas that are frequently flooded, comprehensively improving drainage capacity.
According to Mr. Nguyen Linh - Vice Chairman of Thai Nguyen Provincial People's Committee, the project aims to completely solve the problem of flooding in the inner city, while ensuring capital allocation and implementation in accordance with legal regulations.
The Department of Finance is assigned to preside over and coordinate with relevant units and the People's Committee of Phan Dinh Phung Ward (formerly under Thai Nguyen City) to organize the preparation of a proposal report.
The Department of Agriculture and Environment is assigned to preside over the establishment of a Working Group to collect and collect data on rain, floods, and inundation in the center of Thai Nguyen City (old) and neighboring areas in the period of 2025 - 2026.
In addition, the People's Committee of Phan Dinh Phung Ward and related wards are required to determine the boundary markers of the river and stream protection corridor on the cadastral map.
The Department of Construction is assigned to summarize the implementation results from the units, periodically report to the Provincial People's Committee on the 8th of each month.
Along with that, this unit directed the Center for Management and Operation of Construction and Transportation activities to regularly maintain sewers, clear water flows, and collect garbage at points prone to congestion during prolonged heavy rains.
Regarding the capital structure, according to the initial proposal, the project will allocate about 165 billion VND to build an SP9 Pumping Station, 107 billion VND will be used to renovate the Xuong Rong - Dong Danh stream system, more than 85 billion VND will be used to treat flooding on Quang Trung Street.
The remaining amount is about 140 billion VND, which will be used for compensation, resettlement support and other costs.
In particular, the items of Huu Cau and Tran Thac Huong dykes are not currently included in the total capital of the project.
After completion, the project is expected to improve flooding conditions during prolonged heavy rains in the central area of Thai Nguyen City (old), stabilize life and ensure livelihoods for local people.
