Ho Chi Minh City - Moc Bai Expressway to start construction in September 2025
The Ho Chi Minh City - Moc Bai Expressway has a total length of 51 km, passing through Ho Chi Minh City and Tay Ninh, with a total investment of more than VND 19,600 billion under the BOT (build - operate - transfer) form.
Of which, the expressway section through Ho Chi Minh City is 24.7km long, starting at the intersection with Ring Road 3 in Cu Chi district, ending at National Highway 22 in Ben Cau district (Tay Ninh).
Currently, the work of marking and determining boundaries to serve site clearance is being implemented and is expected to be completed by the end of March.
The project through Ho Chi Minh City needs to use 182.25 hectares of land, with about 1,877 households in 11 communes of Cu Chi district having their land reclaimed.

The People's Committee of Cu Chi district plans to issue a detailed compensation plan in July 2025 and conduct compensation payments and reclaim at least 173.2 hectares of land (equivalent to 95% of the area requiring site clearance) before the end of August 2025.
It is expected that on September 2, 2025, the project will start construction of a residential road and overpasses across the highway using state budget capital.
By January 2026, the main expressway (phase 1) will be implemented under a BOT contract.
The Ho Chi Minh City - Moc Bai Expressway is expected to be completed by the end of 2027, helping to increase the capacity of the international transport route connecting Ho Chi Minh City with Cambodia, reducing the load on National Highway 22. This is also the shortest route connecting Ho Chi Minh City with Cambodia through Moc Bai Border Gate.
Expanding National Highway 22
In addition to the Ho Chi Minh City - Moc Bai Expressway, the National Highway 22 expansion project has also been approved by the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council in the form of a BOT investment policy.
The route has a total length of about 8 km, starting at An Suong intersection (District 12) and ending at Ring Road 3 intersection (Hoc Mon district).
The National Highway 22 upgrade project will widen the road surface to 60 m, accommodating 10 lanes, including 4 lanes with a speed of 80 km/h in the middle and 6 lanes on both sides with a speed of 60 km/h. The project also builds 7 overpasses at key intersections.
About 1,362 households in Hoc Mon district had their land reclaimed, of which 392 households were completely cleared and 970 households were partially cleared.

The total investment for the project is VND 10,424 billion, expected to start construction in 2026 and be completed in 2028.
After being upgraded, National Highway 22 will be synchronized with other important traffic projects such as Ring Road 2, Ring Road 3, Ring Road 4, Ho Chi Minh City - Moc Bai Expressway, creating a complete traffic network for the Northwest area of the city.
Ho Chi Minh City - Tay Ninh railway line
In addition to road projects, Ho Chi Minh City is also planning to build a railway connecting Tan Chanh Hiep station (District 12) to Trang Bang, Moc Bai and Xa Mat stations in Tay Ninh, with a total length of 139km.
In particular, the 40km section from Tan Chanh Hiep Station to Trang Bang will be built with a double track gauge of 1,435 mm.
This railway project not only helps to enhance connectivity between Ho Chi Minh City and Tay Ninh but also contributes to reducing the load on the road system, promoting trade and developing the regional economy.
